My opinion on something as suspect as climate change is, it is that scientists are just like you and I, they have desires and motivations that drive them. We are all human. When scientists glom onto things such as climate change they may be doing it as a way to ride it into retirement, thus it is important for them to quickly legitimize it for the long term. There are so many scientists and only so much science of any noteworthiness after all. Any nouveau cause becomes something they may be able to milk to retirement. Though I would not call Greta Thunberg a scientist, her parents and she herself realized this early on. She wasn't qualified, isn't qualified, likely never will be qualified but it's a cause to milk to riches and retirement. It sort of reminds me of when politicians glom onto an issue and try to ride it into a law so that they can say "hey, I'm a lawmaker and I created that law". Then they gain notoriety and likely are reelected. It's a publish or perish mindset.

The problem isn't the CO2 you exhale. The problem is the billions of tons of CO2 emitted from burning fossil fuels, and the loss of CO2 sinks from forest clearing. There's a huge array of things we can do, and lots is being done - it's a solvable problem, if we act quickly.

And once you create entire industries around these things the incentives are not ti solve it, but ti create more of it. I’d throw homelessness into this as well.
