sunoo about blood donation campaign 🦊So we're doing this in Korea and Japan together and we're collaborating with the Korean Red Cross and the Japanese Red Cross. I think we started with a positive influence and it was a campaign that went well with our vampire narrative and our album narrative so we decided to do it. I heard that about 10,000 people participated. I'm so grateful for that. I hoped this campaign would have a positive influence on many people, and I'm so glad that so many people participated. I'm also glad that we can spread this kind of positive influence through our activities

Even though we say we created a “company,” we just used that word because it’s easier for people to understand. But in the end, it’s not really about the company, it’s about the people. Like, who you work with. And what kind of experiences you share with them, that’s what really matters the most. So with these people, whether we go, volunteering or travel somewhere, we always move together as one group. Because if not and later on, when I write and release a song, if we hadn’t shared those experiences, I’d have to explain everything. Like, “I went somewhere and had this kind of experience…” But since we’ve all lived it together, I can just say, “Hey, I wrote this kind of song this time,” and they’ll be like, “Oh, yeah, I get it. I know exactly what that is.” It just makes everything so much faster, right?”

"People talk about the incredible infrastructure we used to build in the '60s. How quickly we built subways and now it takes forever and so on. "some people say that watching a good movie (as a director) creates more stress thinking, 'why can't i do it like that?'. but that's not true for me, i don't really compare myself much. i focus on the movie and think it's wonderful that art like this exists in the world and feel grateful for it. in such a messy world, there are people who create works like this, and it's such a relief that these works have been completed and i get to see them. in fact, i get stressed when i see works that aren't very good. not just movies but things under the name of art that pretend to have depth and act all arrogant. as if they're desperate for recognition & wanting to be acknowledged but are empty works. honestly, most art these days makes people so tired and often feels like a kind of pollution. so if you want to do something, you really have to do it well and thinking like that just adds to the stress."

Matt Damon participated in Howard Zinn's great "The People Speak" series, and read out a great speech by Zinn about the importance of civil disobedience, which is as apt today as when he first wrote it in 1970: "I start from the supposition that the world is topsy-turvy, that things are all wrong, that the wrong people are in jail, and the wrong people are out of jail. That the wrong people are in power, and the wrong people are out of power. I start from the supposition that all we have to do is think about the state of the world today, and realize that things are all upside down. If you don't think, if you listen to TV, read scholarly things, you actually begin to think that things are not so bad. Or that just little things are wrong. But you have to get a little detached, and then come back and look at the world, and you are horrified. So we have to start from that supposition—that things are really topsy-turvy. And our topic is topsy-turvy: civil disobedience. As soon as you say the topic is civil disobedience, you are saying our problem is civil disobedience. That is not our problem…. Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is the numbers of people all over the world who have obeyed the dictates of the leaders of their government and have gone to war, and millions have been killed because of this obedience. And our problem is that scene in All Quiet on the Western Front where the schoolboys march off dutifully in a line to war. Our problem is that people are obedient all over the world, in the face of poverty and starvation and stupidity, and war and cruelty. These were some good lads, and I’d like to think I won them over in the end! 🇬🇧 So many young people have been indoctrinated throughout the entire education system and taught what to think instead of how to think. Most have never even been exposed to opposing views or had their ideas properly challenged. That’s why grassroots conversations and public debates matter so much. It’s up to those of us in the know to break things down, ask difficult questions, challenge narratives, and undo the brainwashing that so many young people have been subjected to for years. Respect to these lads for actually engaging, listening, and having a respectful conversation. That alone puts them ahead of most young people!

It’s really because we’ve helped tame the technology and figured out how to use it in the most effective way. So I think your question about augmentation versus replacement is the big question we have. If we can all agree that this is about making our jobs better, safer, easier, and more productive, then we’re all in. But if you’re looking to de-skill, dehumanize, and replace workers, to put people out on the street with no path forward, then absolutely you’re going to have a revolution. So I think that’s something we all need to be very real about and think seriously about. If we’re going to have productivity gains, working people—the ones who make these industries happen—need to share in that. There hasn’t been a lot of discussion about that here. Of course, in terms of how we create policies, how we create tax infrastructure, whether or not we are redistributing—yes, that word is a dirty word around here—we need to talk about it and confront how we’re going to make sure working people share in the gains of these technologies. And if you look at the numbers of jobs, let’s talk about job quality. Yes, maybe there are a lot of jobs created, but what kind of jobs are we talking about? Are they jobs that can sustain a family? Is it a job where people can actually work one job? One job should be enough.
