Larry Summers says studying coding is a bad idea and instead young people should learn to work creatively in a group and define purpose, because AI is coming for IQ before it comes for EQ

Cool maybe that buys you a year before AIs are better at EQ too

yep just a question of the order of the dominoes

Learning coding isn't about becoming a programmer; it's about gaining computational thinking skills like problem-solving, pattern matching, and algorithmic thinking. It's proven that teaching kids coding is the fastest way to develop these skills! Also, if you're a programmer using AI for coding, you know “AI will replace you” is just a non-programmer's fantasy. It's so painful to get GPT-4 to not repeat its coding mistakes! These computational skills are crucial, especially now with AI. Teaching kids coding and prompting helps them solve future problems, regardless of their profession. And it has nothing to do with EQ or IQ! Wish I was there and could argue with him 😂😂

Context: this is the same guy who says women can't do math. Terrible takes are his thing. How does he think the AI will get programmed? And remind me again why OpenAI hired him as a board member? Sigh.

Man who has never coded, worked on ai or done creative work gives advice on all three

idk people always looking for excuses not to learn to code

Them: what do you study? Me: *cracks knuckles* I study how to work in a group... um creation... um defining purpose!

sounds like EQcope

His take seems empty, whether or not he is right. I always wonder if people like this, who have had serious success by any metric and get into these modes of cliché-speak… are they actually saying something they understand or is this person successful as a super parrot?
