The original source was MyFoodData. All I did was slugify the name, add a word count and only import foods with 1-2 words. For a larger site hitting long-tail keywords, you can use all of the ~14k foods.

I didn’t put this one live, but one of the case study sites for my video course (not currently open to new members) used a similar technique and got up to 3k pageviews a month before I switched it over to a code framework.

I think if you can custom code your own then it’s far, far, more flexible and you can build better sites. With WordPress, you need to be smarter and do things in a different way to work around the limitations.
