The attached video captures part of my submission during the maiden meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI). I emphasized that Uganda must invest not only in what we produce, but in how we produce it. Too often, our conversations focus on the final product, yet the machines, equipment and spare parts used to manufacture those products are largely imported. This keeps production costs high and limits our industrial independence. Uganda possesses many of the raw materials required to manufacture industrial machinery. If we invest in engineering, technology and machine-building, we can lower the cost of manufacturing, strengthen our industries, create high-value jobs and reduce our dependence on imports. Beyond meeting our own needs, Uganda has the potential to become a regional hub for industrial machinery, supplying equipment to markets across East and Central Africa. True industrialisation is not just about making more products it is about building the machines that make those products. That is where innovation creates lasting economic transformation.

NIGERIA MUST NOT MISS THE 4TH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION The world has undergone four distinct industrial revolutions that have transformed economies, societies, and the way human beings live and work. The First Industrial Revolution introduced mechanization powered by water and steam. The Second ushered in mass production driven by electricity. The Third brought automation through digital technology. Today, the Fourth Industrial Revolution is redefining the future through artificial intelligence, robotics, blockchain, biotechnology, quantum computing, and cyber-physical systems. Nigeria missed the opportunities presented by the first three industrial revolutions, largely due to decades of poor leadership, poor governance, and a failure to invest in innovation, education, and technological development. As a result, our nation has remained largely dependent on consuming technologies developed elsewhere instead of creating them. We cannot afford to repeat that mistake. The Fourth Industrial Revolution is the greatest technological transformation in human history, and Nigeria must seize this opportunity to leap forward rather than fall further behind. Achieving this requires replacing incompetence, corruption, and recycled politics with visionary leadership that prioritizes science, technology, innovation, and human capital development. Today, I commissioned the Busoga Zonal Presidential Industrial Hub in Jinja City! It is crucial that we revive our commitment to free education in primary and secondary schools. We can’t let school fees hinder our children’s future. Every parish should have access to free education without financial barriers. The NRM's vision was to ensure every child could learn without the burden of fees, and we must return to that principle. I am happy with our training programs at the hub, but we are going to expand them to include motor vehicle engineering and ICT.
