Latest progress on 'one elevation model to rule them all'. This example is a combination of nautical charts, gridded bathymetry, topographic elevation models, and more. Really cool...

Weather too? Might be useful for foggy/low-ceiling days

We are entering a golden era of realistically-styled web maps

Beautiful map! What do you use for rendering? Mapbox?

Mapbox! but rapidly running into issues across all platforms because most don’t deal well with terrain tiles dipping under MSL 0.

I just noticed the logo in the corner 😂 I have not tested bathymetry in Maplibre yet. Probably doesn't work

It does! But maplibre’s orbit controls feel jankier.

Good to know. Maplibre's terrain rendering has improved a lot, but it has its limitations. I'm running into several performance edge cases in ORBAT Mapper. Huge range rings on terrain for instance. Lowers the frame rate a lot.

This is badass. If you could zoom in it would be a fishermans dream app.

Monterey Bay, how I miss thee 💔

@youwillmakemaps Have you tried Forge3D yet, I think that package Mu be able to assist. I have been getting more into it as of late. Check it out!

@youwillmakemaps Will try! We're definitely pushing the limits of mapbox.

OOH please make one of these that pulls current water level (lakes) and tide data (oceans). "Will there be shallow flat water to kitesurf on during this wind forecast" is a frequent question for me. I'm trying to teach my girlfriend and beginner conditions are narrowly defined

That's magnificent

That’s so cool I can’t believe this is probably the first time I’m seeing a map like this Is this an ongoing project?

This is rad.

insane, following progress 😀

All land animals live on high plains, they just don’t realize it

I miss the unreasonably hot weather girl

Sell to Google maps?

Looks insane! 🔥🔥🔥🚀

@youwillmakemaps Beautiful

I need to ask, what source are you using for bathymetry? I know NOAA has that for the US, otherwise, amazing... i played with something similar in a smaller scale. Sizes easily balloon.

That’s amazing. Did you import a DEM of the bathymetry data onto the water layer? I have clients who would love this.

Yes, that's exactly what we did! It will likely be made open source at some point as the data licenses are all open.

This will be an incredible resource
