Leonardo DiCaprio’s ability to bring in massive box office dollars allowed Martin Scorsese more creative freedom in the back half of Marty’s career in a way I never fully appreciated until #MrScorsese. Thank God Leo’s used his box office powers to work with Marty for 2 decades.

Shutter Island is probably in the second-tier of Leonardo DiCaprio’s collaborations with Martin Scorsese, but this movie truly has its moments, like this flashback sequence. The older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve really appreciated the things Scorsese is going for here. Not only that, Leo gives a quality performance in the same year he also starred in Christopher Nolan’s Inception.

Martin Scorsese is receiving backlash from The Art Directors Guild, who issued a statement accusing Scorsese of “turning his back on the human artists who throughout his career have helped him create his most memorable works.” This comes after Marty’s recent partnering with AI Startup, Black Forest Labs. I still think there’s a chance/time for Marty to come out and reverse course here. I hope he does. Scorsese’s decision to embrace technology that uses & then replaces the hard work of everyday artists disappoints me to the highest degree. It also shocks me. I hope that the backlash Marty has deservedly received over the last few days forces him to reconsider his decision.
