The Onion Theory of Risk by Marc Andreessen: "I think the single biggest thing entrepreneurs are missing, both on fundraising and how they run their companies, is the relationship between risk and cash. The relationship between risk and raising cash, and then the relationship between risk and spending cash. So I've always been a fan of something that Andy Ratcliffe taught me years ago, which he called the onion theory of risk. Um, which basically is, you can think about a startup like on day one, um, as having every conceivable kind of risk, right? And you can basically just make a list of the risks. And so you've got, you know, founding team risk. You know, do the founders, are the founders gonna be able to work together? Do you have the right founders? You're gonna have product risk. You know, can you build a product? You'll have technical risk, right? Which is maybe you need a machine learning breakthrough or something to make it work. Are you gonna be able to do that? Um, you'll have, you know, launch risk. Will the launch go well? You'll have, you know, market acceptance risk. You'll have revenue risk. A big risk you get into in a lot of businesses that have a sales force is, can you actually sell the product for enough money to actually pay for the cost of sale? So you have the cost of sale risk. If you're a consumer product, you'll have a viral growth risk. Well, you get the thing of viral growth. And so, a startup at the very beginning is basically just this long list of risks. And then the way that I always think about running a startup is also the way I think about raising money, which is it's a process of peeling away layers of risk as you go. And so you raise seed money in order to peel away the first two or three risks. The founding team risk, the product risk, and maybe the initial launch risk. You raise the A round to peel away the next level of product risk. Maybe you peel away some recruiting risk because you get your full engineering team built. Maybe you peel away some customer risk because you get your first five beta customers. And so basically the way to think about it is you're peeling away risk as you go. You're peeling away risk by achieving milestones. And then as you achieve milestones, you're both making progress in your business, and you're justifying raising more capital. And so you come in, and you pitch somebody like us, and you say you're raising a B round. The best way to do that with us is you say, okay, I raised a seed round, I achieved these milestones, I eliminated these risks. I raised the A round, I achieved these milestones, and I eliminated these risks. Now I'm gonna raise a B round. Here are my milestones, here are my risks. And then by the time I go to raise a seed round, here's the state that I'll be in. And then you calibrate the amount of money that you raise to spend to the risks that you're pulling out of the business. And I go through all this, in a sense this sounds kind of obvious, but I go through all this because it's a systematic way to think about how the money gets raised and deployed. As compared to so much of what's happening, especially these days, which is just, my God, let me go raise as much money as I can. Let me go build the fancy offices, let me go hire as many people as I can, and just kind of hope for the best."

How thoughtful Donghae is to his fans 🥹🩷 #DONGHAE #동해 D: Whether they (Fans) come from Seoul, or from Gwangju, or from Thailand, or South America, they spend that time to see this one performance. They're investing that time. Buying that ticket is exchanging it for an experience with me. They're spending that money to gain happiness. The money they worked hard to earn, they're exchanging it for an experience. Booking hotels and everything, thinking about all of those things, They spend hundreds of dollars to watch this performance, to buy their happiness. If we go out there and do a terrible job, no matter how much they're fans, they'll be disappointed, they will be disappointed. Accidents may happen, even though we should prevent them, but the way we can make people feel better is by working harder ourselves. Even on stage, if anyone can see that it's a mistake, and you're moving lazily, saying, "Let's take it easy because we're older," "Because we're older," "let's just take it easy today," I really think that makes no sense. I think people like that shouldn't be performing at all. In the end, being sincere, and doing your absolute best on stage, that's what creates the emotional impact.

exitv - #taehyun interview 🐿️🐱 moas, this is tomorrow x together’s taehyun 🐿️🐱 since the five of us are a group, it’s rare that i sing a whole song by myself so i think to be able to pull of a song that was 3-4 minutes long all alone was a challenge in itself and that’s what i paid most attention to 🐿️🐱 i wanted to meet my members 🐿️🐱 there aren’t just one or two things (i like about japan) 🐿️🐱 whenever i go to fukuoka…is it called momochi beach? the man-made beach…i make sure to go there and i think in tokyo, i always go shopping in harajuku 🐿️🐱 and if i’m in the city centre, fans recognize me so i feel my shoulders go up with pride 🐿️🐱 the fact that they don’t just pull out their phones and cameras but instead come up and have cute requests like asking if they can shake hands or sign their photocards that they carry around so if possible, i try to do all of it 🐿️🐱 please watch ‘change street’ lots~! 🐿️🐱 thank you 🐿️🐱 please look forward to it

Quentin Tarantino recalls early in his career, visiting the set of Casino and meeting Martin Scorsese for the first time - and having an “embarrassing” encounter with Don Rickles. “I’d never really met Martin Scorsese before. I got an invite to visit the set of Casino. I’d met De Niro before, but I’d never met Scorsese, and now I was actually going to go onto a Scorsese set — and he knew I was coming. The whole idea was that I’d come by for an hour or two before lunch, watch him shoot, and then we’d have lunch together… Don Rickles was in the movie, and he was on set that day... I’ve just done Pulp Fiction. I’ve only done two movies. I’m meeting one of my heroes for the very first time… This is - the gates of Oz opening up, and me going to meet the Wizard. So, I’m walking in to meet the Wizard. I walk onto the set, and they kind of see me. Then Don Rickles goes, ‘Quentin, thank God you’re here! This guy doesn’t know what he’s doing at all! Thank God a real director has finally showed up! This cat is out of it. Please, this is a disaster. It’s a disaster! Please save us from this wreckage. You are a talented man! We need your talent!!’ Oh my God. Now Marty’s laughing. The crew is laughing. De Niro’s laughing. I wanted to hide under the carpet. Cold sweat.”

On a platform full of negativity please please share this beautiful video full of positivity! This got pretty emotional. We handed over £10,000 to the incredible team at ADAPT Oxford money raised by some amazing lads in our M.A.T.E community. Meeting so many lads face-to-face, some who’d come through our Facebook group, guys now living clean in their dry houses and genuinely trying to turn their lives around... it hit me hard. We're literally saving lives together, Adapt & M.A.T.E.S. All the chats, the support, the posts on social media, the podcast, the AMAZING work Adapt do – seeing it play out in the real world felt surreal. This is what it's all about. At M.A.T.E, we are a community that supports men, we see the wider picture and recognise others within our sector and the incredible work they do. Without fundraising, Adapt wouldn't exist and neither would we – here's where your hard-earned money goes.
