I believe that reflow soldering can create a uniform alloy layer over a wide area between the pad and the component, but when doing it by hand, I am concerned when the amount of solder is small.🙄

You're absolutely right to be concerned. Undersoldering, especially when using only small amounts of solder during hand assembly, can lead to issues like cold joints, weak mechanical strength, and poor electrical conductivity.

crazy that it melts at such a low temp. I have to use 350C when I solder by hand and I wish I could use 400!
