Do NOT shorten the races, shorten the CAUTIONS.... There's your 30 minutes. There's no reason to shorten any races!

The abbreviated version: “let me tell you why my terrible take is right and NASCAR fans are wrong”. Nobody that cares about the sport cares about catering to casuals, Jeff.

Another truly horrendous take by someone in NASCAR media

Are we seriously doing this for another day on Brickyard 400 weekend. We the fans have made it very clear that we don’t want shorter races. Stop telling us what we should want and what shorter races would do. The racing is great. It wouldn’t make the racing better lol. It’s not like they are out there riding around until the end. This is ridiculous.

The fan base it pretty clear, end the stage cautions and get back a good chunk of time/green flag laps.

Well if you don’t throw two random cautions which turn into about 15-20 mins of pacing purely so TV can get in their commercials then perhaps they’d have a chance to run green long enough to kill that time you’re talking about.

Ticket prices would drop then too, no? How would you justify charging the same price for less track time?

We have lost all the weekend trackside live and tv from Speed, we have lost tons of practice time, and now yall want to take away track time on Sunday. The fans are never gonna support this. If you want to shorten things by 30 minutes or so, fix the dumbass stage breaks and unnecessarily long cautions.

you've convinced me. all cup races should be longer.

Last week’s race was 2 hours and 45 minutes why are we saying it was too long? It was under the magic, arbitrary “3 hour” time

Does the fan reaction to this not tell you the story? We don't want this. NASCAR clearly isn't going to address stages. That's the true way to shorten races. Why punish the fan for their dumbass extra 30 min? What are we doing here?

Holy hell Jeff, just shut up and focus on the ridiculous amount of caution laps.

Why are y'all media fcks always trying to create an issue that's not even there cup races are supposed to be long and grueling

“400 miles is enough.” There’s literally five races left on the schedule that are 500 miles or longer. The Daytona 500, the Southern 500, Coca-Cola 600, and both Talladega. If “400 miles is enough” then we literally don’t need to have the conversation because 500s barely exist.

The paying customers seem to disagree but in NASCAR world the customer is never right.

I just think you shorten cup races then trucks and Oreillys will too, the weekend is already short for the fans, I don’t see a need for it right now the race length is perfect, get rid of stage cautions

Races are not too long Cautions and stage breaks are End of story

Here's an idea. Don't run 10 laps under caution every stage break. The track doesn't need to be swept and blown off every stage caution period. Single car spins shouldn't burn 5 or 6 caution laps.

Then go cover nothing but the dirt series @jeff_gluck and dont come back. You have that option, but that series in no where near as popular and you wont get near the fan engagement from that series which willl mean you make less money, but you won't you'll just try to change @NASCAR. Take larson with you if yall cant handle 400-500 mile races and im a larson fan but if yall dont like it goodbye

The North Wilkesboro Cup race was only 2 hours & 50 minutes. Now just imagine cutting out the stage cautions. Let’s say it saves us 30 minutes. That would put us around the 2-hour 20-minute mark, and we didn’t sacrifice the length of the race.

Jon Palmieri profil fotoğrafı

I get your point, but reality is NASCAR is more likely to remove laps than shorten anything on their end. We end up with less racing and more pacing. Fans have been more loud in advocating for stage break laps not to count, but that’s been totally ignored for years.

No, you’re wrong. Not a single fan who goes to the race track is wishing the races were shorter. If you’re going to shorten the race then cut the ticket price

1. We aren’t sprint cars, those that like that format, good for them. We are NASCAR, thats what makes us different! 2. You asked for shorter races 15 years ago, now you want them shortened more, why? 3. Slow down and enjoy what we have, why rush a finish?

Eh. These guys get paid very well to do what they do. The length shouldn’t be in the convo. Why keep pushing away what makes nascar unique? The show is 400-500 miles on ovals. If you want shorter races there’s Friday and Saturday.

I would happily lose a half hour of a race if it meant I got back multi-day, multiple Cup practice sessions throughout the weekend. I want more racing, not less. Less is exactly why I stopped investing MY valuable time and money to go enjoy a Cup race weekend in person.

If they shortened most of the non crown jewel cup races and didn’t tell us the people crying about this opinion wouldn’t even notice that the races were shortened

Unfortunately someone in a suit and tie sitting behind a desk truly believes this is the answer to tv ratings. Let me be clear… ITS NOT. What happens when you cut approximately 30-45 MORE mins off a race time? What happens when “TV” has a LOT less commercial slots to sale to advertisers? What happens when sponsors pay millions of dollars to put their name and company on these race cars and they get much less of a ROI based on the time/distance of a race being aired on tv? The money will start to dry up. TV deals & sponsor dollars to teams will become less lucrative. This is pure nonsense and ignorance at its finest.

Via racing reference: modern day Cup races are 16 minutes shorter on average from green flag to checkered flag than any of the previous 3 decades. The races are as short as they’ve ever been.

Fans spend money, lots of money to go see races, But now the tv spectator is bored. I’m not spending my $, or losing a days pay for a 2 hr event. Stop chasing the white rabbit!!It’s the same shit every year.

People seem to be having a very hard time separating race length and race time, Jeff The races have been fine for decades, all the extra bs that's extended the time needs to go then we'd be fine 2 hour shows were never a huge discussion 20 or even 10 years ago, what happened?

Shorter races? Such an out of touch take. Cost of travel has never been more expensive, tickets to races aren't cheap, but we should want shorter races to completely justify all that BS. Stupid. How about not starting races at 7:30 Sunday night? For what?

The races have gradually become shorter. In 2000 arguably the prime era for nascar there were 7 500 mile races(499 dega counted) 1 600 mile race There were 8 400 mile races 19 were shorter than 400 miles. In 2026 we have 4 500 mile races 1 600 mile 12 400 mile races. 19 races shorter than 400 miles. These statistics do not support the claim that shorter races will make a better product and have more viewers

My take on this; - race distances are fine… - CAUTIONS AND STAGES TAKE YEARS OFF OUR LIVES - the professional race car driver complaining he has to race more is so tone deaf to fans. - keep Wilkesboro a points race and 450 laps AND AT NIGHT YEAH I SAID IT
