This is exactly why I always travel with my SA wines when going international. Most of the time it’s to gift my non-SA friends, which always leaves them wanting more (we like that 🤗 ) , but it also means I get to drink premium wine , no sulphites , without breaking the bank ! 🫠

I don’t agree with this thesis overall. I think both Cap Classique and Champagne have their place; it’s not one against the other. I’ve also consistently experienced Champagne differently in Europe versus South Africa, even with the same brands. I don’t yet know whether that comes down to storage, transport, supply-chain conditions, provenance or something else, so I don’t want to speculate beyond my own experience. But it does make me hesitant to compare the two markets purely on retail price. I’d actually like to look into the data around this.

I agree about the price but I dont agree that most of those MCCs are better than Veuve. Its not only the premium price from marketing, its also the terror, history and experience that makes those champagnes special. They have found a distinctive taste year in year out.
