Swing and a miss He's talking abt reactivity as important for immersion and sense of interactivity within the game, not "realism" If yr gun shot copies of Roger Rabbit, then there would be smashed Roger impressions on the wall, and this only incidentally has to do w/ "realism"

The world reacting to your actions AND still being fun is what matters. San Andreas was fun and had this mechanic? RDR2 has similar "realistic" mechanics, one of the highest reviewed games of all time. Can't tell without playing it but Rockstar has a pretty good track record.

a REFERENCE to real life, not an EMULATION or COPY of real life. I think the word choice matters, and I strongly believe if you had a conversation with him on this, im certain the phrase "IMPRESSION of real life" would be used at some point

Bad interpretation. It’s fun to have games react to you in a “realistic” way. But that doesn’t mean the game should solely chase realism. That’s what Valve is saying. Realism shouldn’t undermine fun ex: jump height, # of weapons you can carry, carry capacity, power fantasy etc.

how about instead of being a clown yourself, you watch the documentary and REALLY think about what it is they are trying to say.

I don’t think they’re making a point about realism other than that catch quote at the very end. The point is having a fully engrossing and reactive game world—not one that has to focus on “realism” per se.

Realism shouldn't hinder gameplay it should be a finish to create immersion. Have to maintain your characters shape isn't something I'm looking forward to

With the way Gabe’s quote is phrased I think he would encourage realistic ideas in games if theyre fun, but doesnt want to be held back creatively by other devs notion that a lack of realism is inherently bad. Yet its always misconstrued to say realistic game concepts are bad lol

> The world being interactible to help you in battle > Stupid little detail that the devs went for as a joke and didn't need to implement HAH STUPID CUNT THEY CARE ABOUT REALISM!!!!

the way i think about it is i dont really care about it being realistic unless its just being realistic for the sake of it. you can make something realistic and still be fun to play. its not just that or the other, it can be both.
