By setting the club behind the ball, he effectively started part of the backswing before the swing even began. That meant less movement, fewer moving parts, and an easier path back to impact. The goal wasn't to create a unique look. The goal was to eliminate unnecessary motion. Less motion = less timing. Less timing = more consistency.
