My heartfelt respect and best wishes go out to the people of Maharashtra. I am a North Indian, and speaking purely from my personal experience, I have found Maharashtrians to be incredibly warm and genuine. When it comes to friendship and relationships, I have rarely come across people who maintain bonds with such sincerity and loyalty. I also feel that the Marathi language is quite easy to learn, especially for Hindi speakers. If you already have a good understanding of Sanskrit, learning Marathi becomes even more accessible because of the shared vocabulary and linguistic roots. Even the basic Marathi language test should be quite manageable with some sincere effort. There is no reason for anyone to feel intimidated by it.

Assimilation creats harmony. No harm learning lil bit marathi..its a beautiful language.

North Indians can't speak Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu or Malayalam… but the second they step into our states they demand Hindi because it suits *them*. If you come to another state, respect the local language and culture. Your convenience is not our problem.

Do you know how many people speak Hindi? Have you ever been outside of Maharashtra? Even in those states for which you are using derogatory remarks, if they have never been to school, they don’t know how to speak or write hindi, their dialects are just 30-49% similar to Hindi
