Pulisic is a pacier player, but Cavan is better at controlling tempo and has a much better engine.

Wasn’t just pace tho, his crossing and final 3rd product was much better IMO. If Cavan adds that, then we’re talking

@cold_skull Tbh I think we’re trying to compare two different types of players. Pulisic and Mathis Albert are far more comparable. But I think Cavan can have a similar European career but maybe fewer G/As and provide far more value to the national team for a bevy of reasons

Pulisic was great but all of these are of him 18 and older. He barely played as a 17 yr old. He turned 18 at the beginning of the 16/17 season. Comparing 18/19 yr old Puli to a 16 yr old Cavan is not apples to apples

Fawk he looks more explosive and confident here. Injuries obviously a big part of it, but why else for the confidence? It hurts to wonder if his USMNT teammates didn’t let him down and miss the 2018 WC during his initial ascendancy if that would have changed things…

Pulisic was amazing in his younger years. His burst of speed was lightning, and was more than willing to take defenders on at that speed. Cavan altough good, has more of a stocky frame, so it limits his speed. He will get better, and could be better fit for a more physical game, than young Pulisic was.

I watched every minute each of them played at Dortmund; pre-Qatar Gio was as good as Bellingham and Dembele were at that age. Pulisic had lost his starting spot to Jakob Bruun Larsen when he left Dortmund...

His pace and movement is better than Cavan’s That said, at the same age he was playing Dortmund U19s while Cavan is playing grown men in MLS. Pulisic didn’t break into Bundesliga until 18.4 months. Cavan is 1 year, 5 months away at the earliest in these clips

Main thing that stands out to me is Cavan's first touch often looks quite heavy. He makes up for it with his engine/effort but that would be punished at higher levels. Otherwise love his creativity, confidence and style of play.

he was limited though. and we see the results of this limitations. cavan can do more if he can be developed properly

Pulisic is the greatest player and prospect from the USA ever and nobody comes close. You can be upset about his injury riddled WC campaign all you want but it doesn’t change the fact that nobody is near his quality.

I've got no dog in the mentality or toughness debates post World Cup, but you can't blame him for the injury stuff when every US appearance either starting or off the bench was essentially just him getting clobbered by LATAM teams for like 3 years.

I could imagine Cavan having a less injury-laden career which means he probably does better numbers for the USMNT than Pulisic. But it would take a miracle for Cavan to match Pulisic's club career. I do wish for that miracle to happen though.

Pulisic is great BUT all I see is very high level ball control and lightning speed. Again that’s great. Cavan is a super rare talent like we’ve never seen on the US team. He’s one of those that sees plays before they happen

Different players entirely. Pulisic much more pace on the ball, ball attached to foot at pace, great feints and dekes to create space, but he never saw the field like Cavan does. Cavan is a better anticipatory passer and also a much better/more creative finisher in final third.
