In our last conversation, Gavin said data centers in space will be the most important thing in 3-4 years. He explains that means "racks in space" and thinks orbital compute will solve the watts shortage: "When people hear data centers in space, they picture a Pentagon-sized building in space. That's not what it is. A Blackwell rack weighs 3,000 pounds. It's eight feet high. Four feet deep. Three feet wide. It's racks in space. It has these solar wings that are probably 500 feet long on each side. You keep it in a Sun-synchronous orbit, so those solar panels are always in the sun. And then because it's in an exactly Sun-synchronous orbit, the radiator, which extends behind it for hundreds of feet is in the shade. You link these racks using lasers traveling through vacuum which are already on every Starlink. SpaceX operates the world's largest satellite fleet, which is 98 or 99% of all satellites in orbit. Every Starlink, they're cooling it today. I think Starlink V3 is going to operate at 20 kilowatts. A Blackwell rack is only 100 kilowatts. And people talk a lot about density. Well, if you're connecting the racks with lasers through vacuum, you can make the rack bigger physically. In space, there's all sorts of things that SpaceX can do. They also now operate the largest data center on Earth. I've spent a lot of time at Starbase over the years, and I've talked to a lot of SpaceX engineers. It is the most talented group of engineers on planet Earth, and they're very confident they have solved this."

James on YouTube blue light room drilling craft room analysis...🧐🤔 Many are speculating that the light in James room is from a external bulb or source but here is a overlay from his previous video of him taking out the bulbs on that side of the room and when the blue light occurred hard to sell but if u look there is no bulb there no bulb on that side of the room period. No light source and the back of the room doesn’t have a window or anything period.

Yesterday everyone sold optics because "CPO is delayed to 2027." Today I'm looking at this video of an $NVDA CPO switch running in production at Lambda, wired into GB300 clusters. Both headlines are true. CPO at the SWITCH is shipping now, 144 ports of 800G, liquid cooled, roughly 70% less power per port than pluggable optics. CPO at the GPU, the version that kills the module makers, that's the 2027-28 story, and it always was. Why does the switch get light first? Because the back end fabric is 86% of networking power in these clusters. At GB300 scale the network isn't plumbing anymore, it's part of the compute. Every watt you don't burn moving bits is a watt that generates tokens. Tokens per watt is the metric now. And the detail nobody will talk about again is even inside NVIDIA's most advanced CPO switch, the lasers sit OUTSIDE the package. 18 swappable lightsource modules. Field serviceable, because lasers fail. Pluggable, near package, copackaged, doesn't matter. Every road still runs through the laser makers…

The proposed “Terafab” paradigm reimagines semiconductor manufacturing at utility scale: chip design, wafer fabrication, EUV lithography, memory, advanced packaging, and testing all under one roof, with the ambition of producing more than one terawatt of AI compute capacity per year. Its most radical innovation is treating light as a utility. Today, each EUV scanner relies on its own laser-produced plasma source, firing lasers at molten tin to generate 13.5 nm light. The process is inefficient, intensely hot, debris-heavy, and difficult to scale. Terafab replaces those individual sources with centralized, accelerator-driven free-electron lasers capable of distributing multi-kilowatt EUV light across an entire network of scanners. The advantages could be transformative: • No tin contamination or destructive plasma debris • Higher efficiency through electron-beam energy recovery • Greater photon flux to suppress stochastic defects at sub-3 nm nodes • Redundant accelerators that keep scanners operating during maintenance • Tunable wavelengths, potentially enabling 6.x nm “Beyond EUV” lithography THAT LAST POINT MATTERS ENORMOUSLY Conventional EUV is locked to the atomic emission of tin. Universities teach many erroneous models. One example of a misleading teaching is the Newtonian model of the prism. A man named Johann Goethe corrected and complimented Newton's model about 100 years after Newton. It is not the same light passing through the prism and distributing. It is a brand-new light with each beam of color. The primary light hitting the prism is extinguished by the electrons making up the glass of the prism itself. Those same electrons re-emit a brand new light from each angle. That process happens at the rate of c. Serving the illusion that the original white light came it... separated and exited to continue on. Most people rely on outdated text books or the Pink Floyd album cover "Dark Side of the Moon" to get their information about light and color and prisms. The depictions of light "splitting" and "bending" through a prism based on their color is false. The speed of light is too slow. That is the buried physics problem inside Elon Musk's plan for 1 million AI satellites, and his solution is a constellation that refuses to think together. The world pictures the same machine, a million Starlink satellites wired into one giant brain in the sky. Physics vetoes it on contact. Inside a single ground rack, AI chips exchange 260 terabytes a second across 2 meters of copper and synchronize in millionths of a second. Between satellites hundreds of kilometers apart, light itself needs a full millisecond to cross the gap, a thousand times too slow. The fastest thing that exists cannot keep up with the conversation inside one server rack. A computer cannot be stretched across the sky. Think about it. Maybe Elon will agree. So SpaceX collapsed the computer into the satellite. The spacecraft is the rack. Each AI1 carries a complete data center rack's worth of compute, 120 kilowatts on average, on wings spanning 70 meters, wider than a Boeing 747 jet. The spec Elon posted today pushes further, a full NVIDIA Rubin rack in every Starlink satellite, 72 GPUs, 250 kilowatts peak. Nothing important ever leaves the machine. The weights, the memory, the model itself, all stay home. The laser links between Starlink satellites carry questions and finished answers, never the thinking in between. For 20 odd years computing moved in one direction, toward the cloud, thousands of machines pretending to be one. Orbit just reversed it. A million computers pretending to be nothing but themselves. The moat is not beating the speed of light. If you think about it it is all about building the machine so the most valuable data never enters the race. Two prototypes fly in early 2027. The rocket that has to carry them flies tonight. The piece works out whether the sky becomes one mind or a million. My money is on Elon!

The fastest thing that exists cannot keep up with the conversation inside one server rack. A computer cannot be stretched across the sky. Think about it. Maybe Elon will agree. So SpaceX collapsed the computer into the satellite. The spacecraft is the rack. Each AI1 carries a complete data center rack's worth of compute, 120 kilowatts on average, on wings spanning 70 meters, wider than a Boeing 747 jet. The spec Elon posted today pushes further, a full NVIDIA Rubin rack in every Starlink satellite, 72 GPUs, 250 kilowatts peak. Nothing important ever leaves the machine. The weights, the memory, the model itself, all stay home. The laser links between Starlink satellites carry questions and finished answers, never the thinking in between. For 20 odd years computing moved in one direction, toward the cloud, thousands of machines pretending to be one. Orbit just reversed it. A million computers pretending to be nothing but themselves. The moat is not beating the speed of light. If you think about it it is all about building the machine so the most valuable data never enters the race. Two prototypes fly in early 2027. The rocket that has to carry them flies tonight. The piece works out whether the sky becomes one mind or a million. My money is on Elon!

The USS Gerald R Ford, which was recently deployed closer to Israel, will reportedly be transitioning to an advanced laser defense system. The lasers, which travel at the speed of light, are able to burn holes through enemy assets like drones. Firing a single laser beam costs between $1 and $10. For comparison, a defensive missile can cost between $1 million - $10 million. The lasers, which were first tested in 2014, were introduced to combat China's latest hypersonic missiles. The Navy will soon be testing the Hellcat, High Energy Laser Counter Anti-Ship Cruise Missile, a 300-kilowatt laser that would be able to counter a hypersonic weapon. It is unclear if the aircraft carrier is currently equipped with one of the lower kilowatt laser systems.

EUV machines are the most complicated tools humans make. Their supply chain has over 10,000 individual suppliers, and any one of them not scaling fast enough can bottleneck the entire AI industry. An EUV tool fires lasers at a tiny tin droplet three times in precise sequence, blasting it hard enough to emit EUV light. That light bounces off 18 multilayer mirrors onto the wafer. Meanwhile, the two platforms inside the machine - one holding the stencil, one holding the chip - are flying back and forth at 9Gs in opposite directions. The successive passes have to land on top of each other to within 3 nanometers. If any part of this is off, yield goes to zero. Take just one component. The mirrors are mostly supplied by Carl Zeiss, who have probably fewer than a thousand people working on them. In turn, Carl Zeiss rely on machines from Switzerland to deposit each of the layers, and use a coating process co-developed with a different German company. None of these companies have woken up. They’re gradually increasing production, but nowhere near the levels necessary for what the labs want by the end of the decade. Dylan Patel predicts production can't scale beyond about 100 EUV machines per year by 2030, no matter how much money gets thrown at the problem. In the medium term this is the key bottleneck on scaling.
