LVMPD Drone Locates Missing Child When a family called 911 to report their child was missing on January 5, LVMPD’s Drone as a First Responder (DFR) team responded immediately. Within minutes, the drone was in the air near Charleston and Fort Apache and used its thermal camera to detect a heat signature consistent with a small child behind a nearby backyard. The DFR pilot relayed real-time information to dispatch, helping guide officers and the family to the child’s location. 🚨TEAMWORK IN ACTION🚨 On May 6 around 10 A.M., LVMPD Dispatch received a call about a man choking a woman at a bus stop near Russell & Nellis. LVMPD SEAC officers and AIR2 quickly responded. Officers spotted the pair near the scene, but the suspect took off toward the freeway. With help from AIR2, officers located the man hiding near a bridge. He fled again—jumping onto the freeway. Officers gave chase and safely took him into custody with help from citizens who stopped traffic to protect everyone involved. REAL-TIME RESULTS! On May 12, a homeowner was out of town when their security cameras alerted them that someone was trying to get inside their Las Vegas home near Desert Inn and Arville. They called Metro. An LVMPD drone launched from a SkyPort and was overhead in seconds, locating the suspect outside the residence. Working together, the drone pilot and dispatcher quickly guided responding officers to the location, leading to an arrest. When every second counts, eyes in the sky can make all the difference. We have flown more than 12,000 drone flights so far in 2026. Today, our drones are arriving on scene before officers more than 70% of the time. That means faster response, better situational awareness, better information for our officers, and ultimately safer outcomes for our community.

On March 23, 2026, around 7:30 a.m., LVMPD officers responded to a violent incident near the 4900 block of West Craig Road involving a vehicle crashing into a business, followed by a stabbing and reported shooting. When officers arrived, the suspect had already fled. Thanks to our drone unit, officers were able to quickly locate the suspect from above—leading to a swift arrest. 🚨 AIR SUPPORT TRACKS RECKLESS DRIVER 🚁 NEW VIDEO: On May 21 around 7:45 p.m., officers were alerted to a reckless driver endangering the public in the north part of the Las Vegas valley. Within seconds, AIR5 located the pickup and began tracking from above. The suspect ran red lights, ignored stop signs, and sped through busy streets, nearly causing multiple crashes. With just minutes of fuel left, AIR5 was able to guide ground units, set up a perimeter and handed off to AIR2, which continued the search. A short time later, LVMPD K9 officers located the 20-year-old suspect hiding in a backyard near Alexander and Rancho.
