Mac, Windows, & Linux Are ALL Developed By AI Now Most major Operating Systems now coded by AI, & that rate is accelerating. The number of AI code submissions to Linux doubled in the last week alone.

I hate to break it to you, but very soon every line of code that goes into the Linux kernel will be written by AI 😄

Claiming AI is “developing Linux” because script-kiddies are spamming the kernel mailing list with unverified LLM submissions is hilarious. Maintainers reject this garbage daily. Building an 18-minute doom narrative around an inbox spam filter is peak Lunduke grift.

In Windows' case this is probably an improvement.

I'm moving to NetBSD as soon as I have a spare weekend to figure out backups, what to do about missing Dropbox support etc. If they fall victim to the unmaintainable slop fountain, I'll move to Haiku. If that fails, I'm digging out my Atari Falcon and using that.

I agree that there is no going back. On the other hand, there may be ppl saving old Linux versions before the AI. One will skyrocket, innovating fast. The other will slow down. What is gonna happen later, who knows. Backing up an old version for historical purposes is optional.

i wonder if it's like this temporary boost where AI can fix and update a lot of stuff but then it flattens out? .. it's like .. catching low hanging fruit with a new technology which is a big quanity probably but once most is "fixed" will this continue to this fast?

But since Linux is open source, you can simply fork it and make an AI-free fork of the kernel.

I'd like to see what AI could do in a pure form. Right now, all the AI development is built around human designed scaffolding. Could AI design an RTOS from scratch?

None of this would exist without @grok. I would not have been able to learn how a Raspberry Pi Pico works as quickly. I would not have been able to understand the libraries as quickly. I would not have had the time to write a tutorial Don't be a luddite

FreeBSD, OpenBSD and NetBSD are the best.

Where do you get Windows and Mac numbers from ? Also, the Linux pull requests are really representative of work done. Remember, it's not a gated process

Fifteen years ago, Rework rewired how I think about getting things done — half its ideas felt like they were written for my exact temperament. While everyone else is still smirking at AI coding, pretending to be too pure to touch it, DHH already welded it straight into an operating system — Omarchy. AI agents aren't an add-on there. They're the default. A real trailblazer isn't the one who takes the correct stance early. It's the one who builds it first, so everyone else eventually has to admit they wanted it too.

I hope windows (specially) and iOS are developed by AI, can’t get more bloated.

Food For Thought: we've always held faang, and the like, to the highest engineering standards - if they're all using AI, and increasingly so.. why are we rejecting it?

Sounds like time to switch to the Linux desktop.
