made something I wanted for a while: a high performance custom tab/splits library in swift for native Mac apps. with support for drag/drop, CoreAnimation accelerated transitions, and more. spent a lot of time on the polish of this thing to feel snappy, but fun.

The benefits of switching between horizontal → vertical tabs are underrated. For the Superlogical multiplexer macOS client, both tab styles are great for very different working styles. For me, horizontal tabs are great for more focussed projects or tasks. I'll open a repo, spawn a few tabs with lazygit, a couple agents etc, and live in that for a while. Vertical tabs however, span sessions and even machines - much better for monitoring existing workloads, disparate agent runs and the like. Operator mode. Still quite early wip stuff but already a delight to use.

I enjoy @DaHeckSaJerry's art a lot so I wanted to do a thing just to do something for me for the day. Not sure of Reynard and Cauli's headcanon voice so I could probably try again with feedback but it was fun to make a little dub after so long ^^; Hope it's alright!💖

I feel this. Esp annoying when your .env is missing in a worktree. To mitigate this in my Warp setup, I made a custom tab config that auto-symlinks .env files from the main directory whenever I make a worktree. It's been saving me a lot of time

Getting close with this one! Initial merged work will only support moving splits to other split locations, but eventually will support dragging out to new windows and tabs. This isn't merged, there's still polish to do (it is on a pushed branch though). Drag source had to be AppKit (NSDraggingSource) but drop target and all the drop zone overlays I was able to use SwiftUI completely.

The kitchen staff worked hard to cook for our fundraiser in Miami County & I spent some time with them afterwards tonight. Grateful to be raising a lot of $$ for the campaign from Ohio donors, but the grassroots support is the best part of all. 🙏🏾

Font morphing [orbit] Last month I spent a lot of time creating sphere projections. I wanted to take this further by extending UILabel and mapping each glyph, making it possible for letters to spin in space. Love this as a metaphor for the text 'thinking'.

For the hat trick, here's my third horrible Safari bug of the day… Registering custom properties with the right type causes this element to change height for a second on hover 👍 So I guess we can't support gradient transitions in v4 🫠

SplitPaneKit This is something I've wanted to componentize for a while. We've seen this pattern appear in a few apps now, I even use it at Abode. It has a couple "gotcha" moments with performance and optimisation while animating separate or child views with the drag and translation of the split views, handling breakpoints etc, I thought I'd put it into a nice package. I actually made quite a few optimisations from how I handle this with Abode in this package. So might need to implement it over there😅 As before, right now its UIKit only, but SwiftUI host will likely come over the next few days as I make improvements and final changes to the initial API from feedback. - Draggable split-pane interface - Custom breakpoints or built-in presets - Scroll view integration - drag from content or handle - Coordinated animations with pan-effecting views - UIKit
