23 Years of Tiger Massacre: International Poacher Kalya Bawariya (Aadin Singh) Still Active Through Network The Madhya Pradesh Forest Department arrested an international wildlife trafficker, Kalya Bawariya, last year. He was a resident of Karauli district in Rajasthan and had been involved in this criminal activity for the past 23 years. This man, along with his gang, was responsible for wiping out the tigers of Sariska. At that time, he was working under the notorious international trafficker Sansarchand. He virtually emptied Sariska of tigers. He also carried out indiscriminate poaching of almost all tigers in the Ranthambore-2 and Karauli ranges, and a significant number of tigers in Ranthambore itself. During that period, Sariska had been reduced to zero tigers, while Ranthambore was left with just 16 tigers when it received the status of a Tiger Reserve. Later, after becoming the most wanted criminal in Rajasthan’s forest department, Kalya Bawariya fled the state and continued operating his gang through local small-time traffickers in the Gadchiroli districts of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, as well as in Chhattisgarh. During interrogation, he confessed to poaching 50 tigers and over 100 leopards in recent years. These hunts involved local hunters from Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. However, many of these poachers are still operating underground and continue to harm wildlife. A large number of police and forest department personnel are also allegedly involved in this network, yet both the Forest and Police departments have so far failed to apprehend these wildlife criminals and their sleeper cells. Until concrete and strict action is taken against these individuals, it is impossible to truly revive wildlife in this region. For this, it is essential to form a joint task force comprising officials from all three states (Maharastra , Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh). Gujarat sees a GIB chick after a decade, through a novel conservation measure - the jumpstart approach, coordinated by the Ministry, State Forest Departments of Rajasthan and Gujarat, and Wildlife Institute of India. Envisioned by PM Shri Narendra Modi ji in 2011 to conserve GIB in its natural habitats including Gujrat, Project GIB was launched in 2016. As a result the number of birds in conservation breeding centres, started at Sam and Ramdevra in Rajasthan, have reached 73 with addition of 5 new chicks in this season and we are moving ahead towards rewilding of birds in near future. In achieving another milestone, a female GIB, tagged in August 2025, had laid an infertile egg in Kutch, as this population has lost all its males long back. In a major trans-state conservation effort, a captive-bred GIB egg from the conservation breeding program in Rajasthan was transported by road over 19 hours in a handheld portable incubator and was replaced in the nest on 22 March. The female completed incubating this fertile egg and hatched it on March 26. The field monitoring team found the young chick being reared by its foster mother. This effort is among one of the many steps to recover the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard populations. With the commitment to save GIB, we are making great progress in India’s conservation journey. Congratulations to all scientists, field officers and wildlife enthusiasts who made this possible. SAVE DWARKA (DELHI) FOREST : 120-acre LAND HOME TO SEVERAL SPECIES IS ENDANGERED. NEED TO ADOPT SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT APPROACH | The DWARKA FOREST of DELHI is home to several species of both flora and fauna. Wildlife includes 65 bird species, 50 antelope (Nilgai) and many other animals flourish in the forest. This forest is close to the SAHIBI RIVER. Although it is a newly developed forest (circa 2008 onwards), it falls in the migratory route of birds visiting the Great Najafgarh Lake. The 120-acre land was acquired by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in the 1960s and then by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) around 2008. In 2021, RLDA launched its Bijwasan Railway Redevelopment Project. During the above project, RLDA contractors instead of cutting or planting trees, buried them alive in the soil. They had no valid permission to do so until 2024. The forest department had imposed a fine of Rs 5.93 crore on RLDA for illegal felling of 990 trees in the area in 2022. Cutting trees in the city requires permission from the forest department under the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act, 1994. However, if an area is a protected forest or deemed forest, permission is also required under the Forest Conservation Act, 2023. After the fine was imposed and paid by RLDA in 2022, RLDA again started cutting trees and burying them alive. In February 2024, the National Green Tribunal found that the land on which the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) is constructing the Bijwasan Rail Terminal station in Dwarka is not a protected forest or deemed forest area. The tribunal has disposed of the plea which said the terminal was being built on "Protected" forest land. This allowed the project to proceed. The tribunal also observed that the Forest Conservation Act, 2023, which was recently amended, no longer covers deemed forests. I am compelled to share a deeply concerning experience that occurred to me on Monday, 12/04/2026 at around 12:03 which poses a serious risk not only to motorists but to public safety at large. After filling up my vehicle with a full tank of fuel at Oasis Filling Station along Kamloops Road in Kalingalinga, Lusaka, my vehicle stalled barely 1.9 km from the station while driving on the highway (Nangwenya Road). The engine completely shut down and could not restart. Initially, I suspected a battery issue and spent nearly two hours attempting multiple jump-starts, all to no avail. I then contacted my mechanic, who advised that the vehicle be towed back home for proper inspection. Upon draining the fuel system, we discovered a shocking issue: the fuel contained a significant amount of watery liquid (see pictures attached to this post) Visually and physically, it resembled water contamination. This immediately raised serious concerns about the quality and safety of fuel being dispensed at the station. I returned to the filling station and reported the issue to the manager on duty. Unfortunately, she appeared to have limited authority and could not provide immediate assistance or resolution without consulting her superiors. Regrettably, this engagement yielded no meaningful response. Even more concerning, Oasis Filling Station management has proven to be difficult, and non-compliant in resolving the issue affecting my vehicle, despite clear evidence and multiple affected customers on site. worse off, five other motorists were present at the station reporting similar incidents—vehicles breaking down shortly after refueling from the same location. As it stands, my vehicle is currently immobilized, and I am likely facing costly repairs due to what appears to be contaminated fuel. Sadly, This situation is not just an inconvenience—it is a serious safety hazard. Like in my case, a vehicle stalling unexpectedly on the highway put our lives at risk which could have easily resulted in accidents or fatalities. As it stands, I personally strongly urge: - Fellow motorists to exercise extreme caution when refueling in this area. - The relevant authorities, including the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) and consumer protection bodies, to immediately investigate this matter. - Oasis Filling Station management to take accountability and urgently address the issue to prevent further damage and harm (though they're proving to be not compliant as I speak right now). May this young man's Soul Rest in Peace. The carnage continues due to unprecedented levels of greed, dereliction of duty, and lack of accountability. The funds are actually there and have been provided over the past decade. The Ministry of Finance Ministry of Finance has released about UGX 100 Billion since 2019 for a Department of Government whose main responsibility and objective should be prevention of road crashes. These funds have been spent on activities with very minimal impact on road safety. This information has been shared with IGG, Office of the Auditor General Uganda, Criminal Investigations Directorate-UPF. How do you explained the death of a young man in a fatal road crash that caused the incineration of the vehicle which he was driving? He must have been driving in one of the best motor vehicles in this country given the wealth of his family. He was driving a motor vehicle which probably had good safety features on a smooth road without pot holes. It is easy to draw conclusions like he was speeding, he was fatigued, he lost control of his motor vehicle, he made errors, e.t.c. Whereas all that may be true, did he deserve to die in such a gruesome way for those errors in judgement? The answer is a BIG NO. The truth is government failed him in so many ways. At the center of modern day road safety management is recognition that errors made by road users (drivers, motorcyclists, cyclist and pedestrians) MUST NOT lead to their demise. Here is a situation he found himself in: Concrete Barriers on a road that encourages high speed. Who has the onus to remove this hazard? Government. I could have perished in the same circumstances a few years back before the completion of the KEE on the way to the Airport. It was a rainy early morning at about 5:00am and I drove through barriers which were made of plastic. So why were these not made of plastic? Was there a provision for lighting on that section? If not, it should have been there. This is what we mean when we say roads should be forgiving. Apart from their design, road sides are the major reference here. The road should have forgiven him for this error if it had plastic reflective barriers. These kind of barriers would have caught his attention and he would have stopped his car instead of killing him. Were the traffic lights functional? Why was there no hazard signage or warning of any sort since there were barriers in middle of the road? This section of the road is built as an expressway and as such encourages speeding especially at any time beyond midnight. May this young man's Soul Rest in Peace. The carnage continues due to unprecedented levels of greed, dereliction of duty, and lack of accountability. The funds are actually there and have been provided over the past decade. The Ministry of Finance Ministry of Finance has released about UGX 100 Billion since 2019 for a Department of Government whose main responsibility and objective should be prevention of road crashes. These funds have been spent on activities with very minimal impact on road safety. This information has been shared with IGG, Office of the Auditor General Uganda, Criminal Investigations Directorate-UPF. How do you explained the death of a young man in a fatal road crash that caused the incineration of the vehicle which he was driving? He must have been driving in one of the best motor vehicles in this country given the wealth of his family. He was driving a motor vehicle which probably had good safety features on a smooth road without pot holes. It is easy to draw conclusions like he was speeding, he was fatigued, he lost control of his motor vehicle, he made errors, e.t.c. Whereas all that may be true, did he deserve to die in such a gruesome way for those errors in judgement? The answer is a BIG NO. The truth is government failed him in so many ways. At the center of modern day road safety management is recognition that errors made by road users (drivers, motorcyclists, cyclist and pedestrians) MUST NOT lead to their demise. Here is a situation he found himself in: Concrete Barriers on a road that encourages high speed. Who has the onus to remove this hazard? Government. I could have perished in the same circumstances a few years back before the completion of the KEE on the way to the Airport. It was a rainy early morning at about 5:00am and I drove through barriers which were made of plastic. So why were these not made of plastic? Was there a provision for lighting on that section? If not, it should have been there. This is what we mean when we say roads should be forgiving. Apart from their design, road sides are the major reference here. The road should have forgiven him for this error if it had plastic reflective barriers. These kind of barriers would have caught his attention and he would have stopped his car instead of killing him. Were the traffic lights functional? Why was there no hazard signage or warning of any sort since there were barriers in middle of the road? For three long days, a pregnant Gangetic dolphin fought for survival after getting trapped in a fast-flowing canal in Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj district. The 7.2-foot-long, 147-kg dolphin had been swept into the Paratawal canal during heavy rains. An initial rescue attempt failed, but the teams refused to give up.
