Magnesium Threonate (or Bisglycinate) supplementation can help protect against hearing loss. Also the best treatments for tinnitus. Discussed on the Huberman Lab podcast out now with Dr Stankovic MD, PhD, of Stanford University (She is Chair of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery).

@Stanford i hate tinnitus so much

@Stanford It helps me sleep better and reduced my muscle cramps by about 90% within just a few days of consistent use. My trainer had recommended it for a while, and when I finally took her advice, I couldn’t believe how quickly it worked (& continues to work).

@Stanford @hubermanlab Fascinating how magnesium's role in neural protection was first noted by Birch (1932), yet we're still uncovering mechanisms. Recent work shows it modulates NMDA receptors critical for cochlear hair cell survival. Nature's elegant solutions hide in plain sight.

@Stanford Dosage to treat tinnitus?

@Stanford upgrade from aNDrew and his pale mostly useless guests...

@Stanford Is there anything magnesium can't do?

@Stanford cool (fish?) tanks!

@Stanford Thank you. Freshwater, Discus fish.

@Stanford Fascinating — I hadn’t realized aquariums were actually curated like works of art.

@Stanford What about tinnitus that is caused by hearing loss induced by a vestibular schwannoma? The best thing I've found so far as a treatment is lenire.

@Stanford Magnesium really feels like one of those under rated system-wide nutrients. Saw some studies showing it improves quality sleep too. Makes me wonder if better sleep + inner ear support is a combo for tinnitus recovery. Anyone tried pairing it with melatonin or glycine?

@Stanford Plan to watch. Discovered inflammation is tinnitus trigger. Turmeric 2xs a day. Only effective if good sleep, adequate water, no salt, no lotion allergic to (my favorite, shea butter triggered) and following keto with non-inflammatory foods.

@Stanford Time to interview @SabinehazanMD .. I'm curious to know if the gut bacteria has anything to do with this matter.

@Stanford Tinnitus can be overdose of aspirin, nerve damage, upper cervical subluxation

These 2 claims should be separated The hearing-protection one is real for noise-induced damage - magnesium limits the calcium-overload and oxidative injury that kills cochlear hair cells But tinnitus has many causes and magnesium helps mainly when it's tied to noise damage or a magnesium deficiency, not universally

@Stanford Really appreciate your content 🙏

@Stanford An incredible guest. She provided so much useful information. Also loving the fish tank background.

@Stanford Hi @hubermanlab.Could you do an episode on postmenopause?In my country, specialists in menopause care are scarce, and women are not taught either about the effects of estrogen deficiency on the brain, heart, energy, etc,or about how to supplement appropriately after it.Thank you.

@Stanford Aww shucks there’s so many versions of magnesium - how many bottles do we need? Is this the same as magnesium glycinate; are they interchangeable?

@Stanford Taurine for tinnitus

@Stanford Let’s discuss this…

@Stanford Hi @hubermanlab, as a regular concertgoer, I’d love recommendations for earplugs that protect hearing without minimizing the experience. I’ve tried several products that didn’t meet expectations. I’ll check out your conversation with Dr. Stankovic.

@Stanford Magnesium helps with hearing loss and tinnitus 🙌

@Stanford Fascinating insights! 🧠 Magnesium’s role in neural protection keeps showing up in research. Small daily steps like this can have a big impact on long-term sensory health. Always amazing to see science backing actionable wellness tips.

@Stanford Appreciate you making cutting-edge health research accessible and actionable always.

@Stanford I started Magnesium Bisglycinate about 3 weeks back for better recovery and sleep quality. While I haven't seen any significant improvement in sleep, recovery has definitely improved. And my benign tinnitus has gone too. It never used to bother me, but it was there. Now gone!!

@Stanford 💯 agree, I recently had my mom apply mag oil around her ears for hearing loss and low and behold her hearing was restored which was due to calcium crystallization in the inner ear. Calcium and mag are in a see-saw

@Stanford Is Glycinate the same as Bisglycinate?

@Stanford Seeing Magnesium L Threonate on Amazon. Is this the correct supplement for Tinnitus?

@Stanford is there a particular supplement brand that you recommend?

@Stanford Snakeoil.

@Stanford I love the aquaria in the background! They look great! Btw also an excellent episode 😊

@Stanford Your comments about tinnitus are wrong by any objective measure. They dangerous in giving people false hope.

@Stanford I stopped supplementing Magnesium Threonate to save some money, I'd love to take it again when I can

@Stanford This set up is legit
