Major construction is now underway on the city-shaping Suburban Rail Loop with crews building a massive tunnel boring machine launch site in Clarinda. From 2026, these machines will be in the ground tunnelling. Victorians have backed this project time and time again - and we’re cracking on.

What a perfect project the Suburban Rail Loop is for Jacinta Allan and her #CFMEU mates. Most of the works are underground so there is minimal scrutiny from the public. Union companies are chosen for the project and can charge whatever they like and go at whatever pace they like!

It's time for the 6-month time-lapse update of construction at the Giga Texas Optimus Factory! This time-lapse shows the site from approximately the same perspective on a weekly basis over the 1st six months. At the current pace, I estimate major building construction to fully assemble the entire super structure will continue well into the spring and possibly summer of 2027. During this time, utilities, concrete flooring, ground slab, roofing, exterior walls & steel assembly will be the primary visible effort. Perhaps the biggest construction project that has not yet begun (but is critical for this factory to be able to function) is the electrical conduits and cables from the electrical switchyard. I have not yet observed this project starting. The distance to the electrical switchyard is almost a mile ( ~ 1.6 Km) so this in itself is a major project that I am watching for to begin. I hope you enjoy this 6-month timelapse of progress.

It looks like some of this is to move the rental equipment lot further away to allow a new graded area for a new construction project. What this is is still uncertain, but I do know changes in plans & permits have been underway as the entire Giga Texas site is seeing wide scale massive construction projects that are literally transforming what the overall campus visually looks like. We may hear more about all these projects at the 2nd Qtr Financial Results meeting on Wednesday … certainly the cash flow and Capital expenditures will be a topic of discussion, but you will already know all about that via the coverage of Giga Texas construction! 😎

We’ve spent the past week disconnecting illegal electricity connections in Pretoria West. We found this property where an illegal construction of dozens of residential rooms is underway. This building isn’t approved by the city for commercial use and is designated for single household occupancy. The man responsible for this project has previously been flagged by the municipality. An unsafe building he built on the adjacent property was demolished after the city secured a court order. Our building inspectors will yet again have to fine him and stop any further construction. They plan to relocate ≈4 million people from Beijing to Xiongan under a mixed system of both voluntary and coercive measures. A lot of construction work is still done by hand simply because the machines to automate it don’t exist. That’s become a bottleneck for building things like solar farms, data centers, and other critical infrastructure. Cosmic Robotics is building those machines. Their robots have already installed 11,000 solar panels, and they just signed a major contract with the largest construction company in the country. They’re building the construction robots we’ll need on Earth today, and eventually on the Moon and Mars. James Emerick
