Another massive new construction project underway at Giga Texas, this time on the very far W of the site across FM973 & near the Tesla Rd intersection. It looks like some of this is to move the rental equipment lot further away to allow a new graded area for... a new construction project. What this is is still uncertain, but I do know changes in plans & permits have been underway as the entire Giga Texas site is seeing wide scale massive construction projects that are literally transforming what the overall campus visually looks like. We may hear more about all these projects at the 2nd Qtr Financial Results meeting on Wednesday … certainly the cash flow and Capital expenditures will be a topic of discussion, but you will already know all about that via the coverage of Giga Texas construction! 😎show more

This follows the Shareholders meeting & info that a 10-million-per-year Tesla Optimus production facility "on the Giga Texas campus" will be built & enter into production in 2027! Here are some details! Land clearing on the E side, River Road expansion & several construction projects are already underway! Another major construction project at Tesla Giga Texas today is the new test track on the far SW of the property! A large “oval” like outer track with what looks like a smaller oval track is definitely taking shape, and of course there will be support structures and more added as this project continues to make progress. Overall, the amount of construction around the Giga Texas project is approaching the original effort to make the main factory almost 6 years ago! It’s hard to keep track of it all, but I’m trying! Such an amazing story that has been, & continues to happen here just east of Austin!

30 June 2025 Giga Texas Snapshots! Early morning views while production pause gets underway. How much construction is underway at Gig Texas? A lot more than most seem to realize so I thought I’d share this higher altitude flyover to help out much of it into context. This covers about 40-45% of the total land area and there is some additional construction just visible well off the the west of this flyover (the far right of the frame). I hope this is helpful and oh … lets you know where a substantial amount of all that CAPEX that everyone seems worried about is going. This is what everyone will be talking about in 2028 … all under construction right now.

A lot of big things underway at Giga Texas & honestly, it is getting hard to keep track of it all, from production across several products to construction on 4 major projects at the site, along with hundreds of other activities! Giga Texas Cortex 2 continues to see more Megapacks arrive today & be installed, while a new paving project is underway today for roads & large apron sections around the W, S & E sides of the datacenter. The chiller plant construction & assembly continues at a quick pace, while new permits for temporary chiller units match up with on-site trailered units on the SE side!

Giga Texas is preparing for a massive expansion & a new permit hints at what this will be … a new “North Campus” is coming to the site, & ground prep, clearing & more is underway. Big news at the new Optimus 10m/y factory construction site today! The 1st steel structure has been erected & as expected the second phase of land reclamation is underway. This will allow this new factory to grow to nearly the same length as the main Giga Texas factory, although it will be a few hundred feet (~50 - 70 m) narrower. If you did not realize the massive size of this new factory, this should tell you all you need to know! A lot of steel beams & columns were being delivered to the site today and using the new staging yard in the nearby “lone tree” field. Check out this short clip showing the expansion, the steel structure & more of the foundation work!

The new Giga Texas Optimus factory foundation work continues with three distinct sections under construction. On the south end of what I think may be phase 1 of the construction, the large depressed graded area has had about .5 to 1 meters of gravel and crushed concrete added and now GeoPier equipment is at work. On the middle section, dense footings of two primary types are being constructed, suggesting heave loading of the structure in this area. On the north end, it’s mainly flat grade with little footing work so far. I say I *think* this might be a two phase construction project because the north perimeter grade beam is laid out as if it is the final configuration, but the south end is not. There is a large field south of this area that, with reclamation work, could support a doubling of the structure, if that was desired.

While everyone is thinking about Cybercabs, FSD, the new Advanced Technology Fab and more, don’t forget Tesla Optimus needs a place for his body to be built, and that new 10M/year factory is seeing a lot of foundation work today on the N end of Giga Texas! More Sentez | Geopier work creating piers in the ground to support the future structure, defined earthwork in the middle section and more grade work on the N & S sides of the construction site! This is going to be fun to watch come together!

Also, a very interesting highly camouflaged Model Y including the interior! This is a new development and the 1st time I’ve seen anything like this at Giga Texas … what do you think this is?

On the E side, the site clearing for the new Advanced Technology Fab is underway, with more demo of old structures, material movement & River Rd extension next to where the Riverpark will be constructed next to the Colorado River. The approach is similar to what we saw with the main factory building when it began construction. Grade preparation & old sand & gravel mine reclamation work, while GeoPiers put in piers to support footings & then steel erection beginning int eh center part of the structure, then proceeding to the N & then S as the structure assembly progresses. Tesla construction uses an agile & Minimum Essential Capability (MEC) approach which means we are likely to see portions of the factory be completed more quickly than other portions to allow the start of equipment installation & initial testing before the rest of the structure is completed. I also think we are seeing this in two main parts … the first where the structure is rising now & the second, further south where ground reclamation work is still needed before grade preparation can begin. Again, this is very reminiscent of how the main factory was constructed in 2020 through 2022.

What is better than seeing a bunch of Cybercabs at Giga Texas? How about 10 driving on the Test Track in a large pack? I was just in time to capture this testing underway. To my knowledge this is the largest group of Cybercabs on the track at any given time so far! On the 1-year anniversary of the Tesla Robotaxi service going live, I think this is encouraging to see … I hope soon we see these out on the streets taking paying passengers, scaling the Tesla Robotaxi service fleet up & expanding to new locations.

Big news concerning operational changes at Giga Texas including a push for more public venues & options for direct vehicle delivery from the factory. A few key highlights: Customer direct vehicle deliveries have already been happening at a small level from Giga Texas for a few months ... this also includes the 1st fully autonomous delivery across Austin A new customer direct delivery center (essentially a sales center) is being added on the N end of the W End-of-Line (EOL) facility ... this will be open to the public & will be used for customers who opt for this instead of autonomous delivery to their house Customers will be able to take delivery & complete all paperwork to take possession of their new car at this location New road access is currently being added on the NW corner of the out bound lot, & the N-S road that connects to Tesla Road on the N & River Road on the S will allow customer access to this location This recent decision changed the original plans for a new Welcome Center near Tesla Road ... it will now be constructed in the large plot of land just N of the EOL & use the new public road access as well Discussions continue about the potential second Boring Company tunnel for Model Y transit from the factory to the EOL facility. This debate is ongoing, but I think we will see a tunnel at some point.
