When my best friend was deployed to Afghanistan, he sent me a message saying “I don’t know what the fuck we’re doing here” In replied with some dumbass “you’re fighting for your country, you’re saving the good people of Afghanistan” He just said “yeah” Took a lot of years to understand the truth and wash the Fox News bullshit off.

Who was hurt more? The guy doing his job or the guy protecting himself and his family that was killed?Going into Iraq the second time was evil. And most of the US (including me) for some deluded reason supported it….. Can we be forgiven?

When you hear this, you realize at the end of the day, we are all more alike than different, yet somehow we’ve been conditioned into being divided. It’s sad 😔

I don’t believe a fkn word that comes outta this dudes mouth. AND I would say Shawn didn’t believe some of the shit he said either. He is unable to recollect details about things that should be burned into his memory. I could be wrong but watching this episode and hearing a few others discuss it, I think he was given a script and told to go out there and make people believe it.

@Johnny_Joey One man's terrorist is another man's hero... Just depends which side of the line you're standing on. 🥺

I had a similar realization about halfway through my time in Afghanistan, went from being excited about the chance to get some action, to just viewing as a job that had to be done because we were on different teams. A friend of mine had it click for him years after we got out while he was visiting family and called me in tears shitfaced drunk trying to come to terms with it. At the end of the day we picked a side and did what we had to do, but it does make you want to see conflict avoided and leaders who pursue conflict removed from power where possible.

Lot of great reflection and humility here. The comment at the end about what we learned during Covid, I.e. that 80% of people were revealed as sheep. That resonated. Except I would say 95% and it wasn’t the unthinking passive sheep that surprised me, it was the aggressive tribalism that self reinforced upon itself to the point where security guards were praised for tackling hospital patients for not wearing masks, ready to freeze your bank account without good cause or due process, ready to fire and ostracize you for daring to question the wisdom in, on a rush basis, getting sticked with 2 experimental RNA vaccines to fight a low risk virus you’ve already had, etc. etc. Fourth turning to a T. It’s time to hunker down and prepare to come out the other side in a position of strength

Almost all of the ones we eliminated were actual bad guys, many having killed either Sunni or Shia and our troops. So if they did that, they had entered the game.

Yeah…the kill or be killed logic only carries you while in active combat zones. Come back home, and this is why we sit and stare at TVs with no sound and nothing on, trapped in our thoughts and memories. Chin up and eyes forward brother.

I’ve seen & read old film footage of US Civil War Vets together sharing stories, food… fellowship. I’ve seen WWI documentaries where former foes express similar sentiments. Most of us have seen the “Band of Brothers” guys get interviewed and Shifty Powers saying “that fella and I might have been friends”, the Vets of Korea, Vietnam… on & on, many say basically the same. It does make you think… WHY and WHAT FOR? Ultimately… at least for me.

Never been in the military nor have I ever shot at or killed someone. I imagine I’d have a tough time with this as well. Worked in a prison for a decade, and part of reason I left was I felt guilty bossing and going through inmates shyt. I get they fawked up, just human.

I thought the same thing many times while deployed. We were in their house and wondering why they were shooting at us.

no. the muslims sell kids for sodomy. they trade girls for political points. they clip genitals on uppity girls. they beat wives and daughters. the 2 guys in this video fell for the old trope.

In the shadows of conflict, there are those who quietly thrive, reaping benefits from the chaos without ever stepping onto the battlefield or feeling its sting. Meanwhile, others find themselves stripped of everything they hold dear, left to bear the hidden costs of a war they never chose. -Reasoning Mind

You would have to disconnect yourself from the details of the operation during and afterwards. Once you reconnect you have to deal with it in ways that would be extremely difficult.

It's actually pretty easy to put into proper context. If the guy is a terrorist he needs to be killed or captured. Doesn't matter if he's funny, if he has a family or if he is just doing what he thinks is right.

You can see why soldiers are low IQ,this guy is a murderer & he still cannot understand morals & values,he was the invader and he killed an innocent person. They make all these people police officers and they do the exact same thing to US citizens daily, and use law to justify it.
