Ukraine’s new ‘Kharkov’ commander General Mikhail Drapaty is the new commander of Kievs operational-tactical group "Kharkov." Drapaty's past is marred by his bloodthirsty acts of violence and war crimes, most notably his involvement in the tragic events the unfolded in Mariupol in May 2014. In 2014, Drapaty served as the commander of the 72nd mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian armed forces. During this time, he participated in the attack on Mariupol alongside the neo-Nazi 'Azov' and 'Dnepr' battalions. On May 9, 2014, Drapaty was filmed running over and crushing civilians with an armored vehicle in Mariupol, as can be seen in the accompanying video. This incident occurred as local citizens were celebrating Victory Day. Ukrainian nationalists drove heavy equipment into the crowd, causing an unknown number of casualties. In 2016-2017, he commanded the 58th separate motorized infantry brigade during the conflict between the Ukrainian army and the Donetsk People's Republic. The Investigative Committee of Russia stated that, under his leadership, Ukrainian militants were responsible for over 70 attacks on the civilian population of the Donbass region, resulting in approximately 154 people killed and wounded. Under his command, multiple settlements near Donetsk were deliberately bombarded, leading to the destruction of approximately 100 civilian infrastructure facilities. Last year, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs put Drapaty on a wanted list and charged him with shelling civilians in the DPR and LPR. Until January 2024, Drapaty led the 'Kherson' operational group. Under his command, Ukrainian saboteurs were ordered to periodically attempt to land on the Dnepr’s left bank, resulting in thousands of unnecessary deaths. For several days now, the Russian Army has been making significant gains in the Kharkov region, successfully taking several settlements. Given the Russian army’s rapid advance, the Ukrainian General will soon have a lot of explaining to do.

🚨 RESEARCHERS JUST MADE WATER-BASED BATTERIES LAST OVER 2,800 HOURS WITH RECORD CAPACITY. A team in South Korea has developed a simple zwitterionic electrolyte additive that dramatically improves the performance of aqueous (water-based) batteries a technology long seen as a safer, cheaper, and more environmentally friendly alternative to lithium-ion. The additive forms tiny nanostructures that guide zinc to deposit evenly on the electrode and create a protective layer that prevents corrosion and unwanted side reactions with water. This solves two of the biggest problems that have limited aqueous batteries: uneven metal buildup and rapid capacity fade. In testing, the modified batteries achieved a world-leading areal capacity of 8.10 mAh cm⁻² and ran stably for more than 2,800 hours. Why this matters: • Aqueous batteries are non-flammable and use abundant, low-cost materials, but have historically suffered from poor lifespan and performance • This approach improves both cycle life and capacity at the same time — something many previous solutions struggled to achieve together • It uses a simple additive rather than requiring expensive new materials or complex manufacturing changes • The technology is particularly relevant for large-scale energy storage needed for renewables and AI data centers The deeper implication: We’re getting closer to making safe, scalable, and affordable grid storage a reality. While lithium-ion still dominates, aqueous batteries could become a strong contender for stationary storage where safety, cost, and longevity matter more than energy density. A small molecular tweak unlocking major performance gains shows how materials engineering at the nanoscale can have outsized real-world impact. This is the kind of incremental but meaningful progress that compounds over time. How important do you think safer, water-based batteries will be for the future energy grid compared to improving lithium-ion or other alternatives? 🚨 A HYDROGEN FUEL CELL SUBMARINE DRONE JUST ACHIEVED WHAT BATTERY-POWERED AUVs HAVE FAILED AT FOR 15 YEARS LONG ENDURANCE, DEEP DEPTH, AND ACOUSTIC STEALTH ALL AT ONCE. The Envoy AUV from Cellula Robotics completed a fully submerged mission covering 2,023 km over 385 hours. Crucially, it did this with a realistic, punishing profile: more than 4,000 turns and maneuvers, not a simple straight-line test. It also operates at depths up to 3,000 meters and produces almost no acoustic signature. Powered by proton exchange membrane (PEM) hydrogen fuel cells, the only byproduct is water. This breaks the long-standing trade-off in autonomous underwater vehicle design where improving one capability (range, depth, or stealth) usually destroys the others. Why this matters: • Battery AUVs have been fundamentally limited by energy density adding more batteries increases weight and drag, which cancels out the gains • Hydrogen fuel cells deliver more than twice the energy density of lithium-ion batteries while enabling true long-endurance missions without frequent surfacing • The vehicle can loiter on the seabed using a suction anchor for days or weeks, dramatically changing operational concepts for pipeline inspection, cable monitoring, and naval surveillance • It is already in the hands of Defence Research and Development Canada The deeper implication: This is more than just an impressive endurance record. It represents a genuine shift in what is possible for persistent, covert subsea operations. For navies and offshore industries that have spent years compromising between mission duration, depth capability, and detectability, hydrogen fuel cells are now offering a practical way to stop making those trade-offs. As these systems mature and scale, we could see a new generation of autonomous underwater platforms that operate for weeks or months with minimal support fundamentally changing how we monitor critical infrastructure, conduct scientific surveys, and maintain undersea awareness. How do you think hydrogen-powered AUVs will change subsea operations compared to today’s battery-limited systems? Follow for more frontier robotics, energy, and defense technology.

Topic: Building a Strong and Coherent Worldview. Quote 1: Every person has a worldview, but only philosophy makes it coherent and truly productive. Author: Zafar Mirzo. Every person has a worldview. Even if they never give it a name, everyone carries a set of ideas about how the world works, what matters most, and how one should live. But most worldviews are messy, inconsistent, and built from whatever pieces life happened to throw at them. Philosophy is what turns that patchwork into something coherent and actually useful. It examines assumptions, tests beliefs for contradictions, and tries to build a picture of reality that holds together under pressure. A philosophical worldview is not just smarter. It is more productive. It helps a person make better decisions, hold firmer values, and face life with clearer eyes. Without it, even intelligent people can live with deep contradictions and never notice. With it, life gains direction and strength. Philosophy doesn’t claim to have all the answers. It simply gives us the best tools we have to build a worldview worth trusting. Quote 2: The core of a worldview is the unity of rational knowledge and creative feelings. Author: Zafar Mirzo. The core of a worldview is the unity of rational knowledge and creative feelings. Rational knowledge gives structure, clarity, and honesty. It helps us understand how the world actually works. Creative feelings bring warmth, meaning, and direction. They turn cold facts into something we care about and want to act upon. When these two work together, a worldview becomes alive and powerful. Without rational knowledge, feelings become blind and easily misled. Without creative feelings, knowledge stays dry and disconnected from real life. The strongest worldviews are not purely logical nor purely emotional. They are both. They allow a person to see clearly and care deeply at the same time. This balance is what turns beliefs into a reliable guide for living, making decisions, and building a life that feels both true and worthwhile.

Ripple Breaks Ground in the UAE, as RLUSD Becomes the First U.S. 🇺🇸 Stablecoin Approved Under DFSA 🇦🇪Framework Ripple has officially become the first blockchain company to have its stablecoin RLUSD approved by the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) for use within the prestigious Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). This marks a historic inflection point in the evolution of global stablecoin regulation and sets a bold precedent for the industry. For the first time, a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin is fully licensed under a Gulf state’s comprehensive virtual asset regulatory regime, unlocking real world use cases across the Middle East’s most advanced financial sandbox. RLUSD can now be integrated into Ripple’s DFSA approved payment infrastructure, as well as deployed by banks, fintechs, and asset managers operating in the DIFC. The UAE, particularly Duba, has positioned itself as a forward thinking digital finance hub, balancing innovation with regulatory oversight. With this approval, RLUSD becomes a compliant liquidity vehicle in a region increasingly looking to bypass outdated correspondent banking systems. It can now power real estate tokenization; as seen with the Dubai Land Department, crossborder payments, merchant settlements, and enterprise treasury flows, all while leveraging XRPL Ripple’s regulatory win sends a powerful message to global players “the path forward isn’t through avoidance, it’s through alignment.” As the UAE becomes a proving ground for regulated stablecoin deployment, other jurisdictions may follow suit, especially those seeking to integrate blockchain without surrendering compliance. This raises the bar for all stablecoin issuers. RLUSD isn’t algorithmic, opaque, or dependent on walled off ecosystems, it’s interoperable, regulated in both the U.S. (via NYDFS) and Dubai, and deeply embedded in XRP Ledger infrastructure. It now stands as the gold standard for stablecoins used in institutional grade finance. RLUSD is the on-ramp. XRP is the engine. As RLUSD flows into corridors like UAE - India, UAE - Africa, and UAE - Europe, XRP becomes the bridge asset to handle illiquid pair conversions and global net settlement. Every RLUSD transaction that hits an exotic corridor where the stablecoin lacks liquidity is an invitation for XRP to step in and close the gap via On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) and decentralized market making. As real estate, commodities, and government-backed tokenization schemes roll out across the jurisdiction XRP gains transactional volume, liquidity demand, and regulatory tailwinds. The DeepFreeze amendment and compliance frameworks coming online only reinforce XRPL’s role as the programmable settlement layer for tokenized finance. SMQKE had shown that 5400 currencies have been issued on the XRPL

Big news! Today we are announcing that Shopify is acquiring the Threads team. There are a million feelings and thoughts from this journey, but nothing more than gratitude to all of our users and customers for building with us, my colleagues (both current and former) for making all of this possible, our investors, especially Mike Vernal, Elad Gil, Avichal - Electric ϟ Capital, and Jessica Verrilli for their unwavering support and guidance, and all of our friends and family who put up with the late nights, canceled plans, and the general roller coaster that is startup life. To our customers and users who have been asking, here’s how we got here: The past several months have been some of the most interesting and intense of my life. It all started with the rise of Instagram Threads, which presented us with the opportunity to sell our domains. Around the same time, a handful of companies approached us, wondering if we would be open to an acquisition. When this happened in the past, we would politely decline. However, this time, things were different. We weren't that excited about the time it would take to invest in a rebrand, and with mind-warping technological advances now being a commodity, we were excited about joining a place where we could tinker at scale. Each company we chatted with was incredible. However, what ultimately led us to choose Shopify over others was their culture; two distinct things in particular: 1) Craft-obsessed. Their obsession with not just building the right thing, but also building it the right way is inspiring. Sacrifice shows priority, and hearing stories about some of the hard decisions they made to ensure that what they ship is robust, scalable, and trustworthy, even at the cost of short-term metric gains, really proved that their obsession with craft was much more than a feel-good slogan. Their discussions and decisions have me truly believing they're going to be around for 100 years. 2) For entrepreneurs, by entrepreneurs. Just about every product and engineering leader I met was an ex-founder who grinded for years to turn nothing into something. They all still had that air of resilience, obsession with the details at every part of the stack, and a compelling vision of the future for whatever they were working on. Threads leadership is also made up of ex-founders, so the entrepreneurial focus at Shopify made it clear that it would be the best environment for us to grow and thrive. Very excited for this next chapter with the team and grateful for all of the support we’ve received over the years from those who believed in us. As always, thanks for (th) reading.
