Making the case for Luis Robert Jr. 🧵 Reasoning with trade proposal included

Initially I wasnt feeling this idea because his numbers have looked bad since 2024 but after watching Sheets go off in SD it made me think about it differently. Robert is still only 27 years old and the ultimate change of scenery candidate.

Hate to say it but the dodgers, who are a sharp organization, were interested and that right there is a green light for me. He’s struggled even more since this April rumor while Andy Pages has emerged so LA’s need for Robert should be less. That’s one less competitor for Robert’s services.

Raw skills are still there with his bat speed at 94th percentile and sprint speed at 86th percentile. He currently leads the majors in stolen bases.

Mashes lefties Even though he’s struggling overall this year he has a 133 wRC+ vs LHP and has a 141 wRC+ vs LHP in his career. Padres have a 88 wRC+ vs LHP on the year.

Defensive wizard There will be some transition growing pains going from CF to LF but this should be way more fluid of a transition than what we saw from Sheets. Career +28 OAA and +14 DRS in CF.

Robert is making $15m this year (you can prorate the remaining amount on your own) with club options in 2026 and 2027 at $20m each. It’s not an ideal contract but something the Padres could do is add Wandy’s ≈$4m AAV contract to offset some money.

A trade shouldn’t require Leo or Salas. @ChiSoxFanMike suggested Romeo Sanabria and Kavares Tears for Robert and I’m all for that but I would even include one of Kash/Bateman if needed over those two. My trade proposal would be Robert for Tears, Kash/Bateman, Wandy or you can replace or even add an ancillary piece like Romeo or Tirso.

Added bonus he’s a playoff performer. Small sample but in 7 playoff games he’s at .393/.452/.500 166 wRC+

There are clear deficiencies in Robert’s game and there’s definitely risk that this could be a flop but the acquisition cost is much less than someone like Jarren Duran. Despite his struggles he still owns a career 110 wRC+ and has former top prospect pedigree.

He provides a power dynamic that is lacking at the bottom of our lineup currently. The team has constantly bought high before with a lot of failure wouldn’t mind trying a buy low on a talented player. Get him into a winning environment where he doesn’t have to carry the team and let’s see what happens.

Let's talk about building businesses, #investing, #entrepreneurship & #crypto.
