Mamdani: Trump might be watching right now. I want to speak directly to the president. I will not be a mayor like Mayor Adams who will call you to figure out how to stay out of jail or be a disgrace governor like Andrew Cuomo who will call you to ask how to win this election. I can do those things on my own. I will however be a mayor who is ready to speak at any time to lower the cost of living. That is the way that I will lead the city and the partnership I want to build not only with Washington, D.C., but anyone across this country. It's important because too often the focus on the needs of working-class Americans are put to the side as we talk more and more about the very times of corrupt politicians like Andrew Cuomo that delivered us into this kind of crisis.

These are policies that do not allow ice admission into schools, into hospitals, into any city property or properties of city contractors unless they can show a judicial warrant signed by a judge. And what we know is, time and time again, the videos we're watching, they're not videos of warrants being shown. They are videos of brutal intimidation. And it is time to have a mayor of the city who recognizes this risk is a present day one, and will stand up for each and every one of the 3 million immigrants who call the city home. I'm one of them, and an understanding that an attack on any New Yorker is an attack on the entirety of the city.
