Let's say this if we want to see who is more to blame for the starvation of children in Gaza. Let CNN in. Israel has not allowed western journalists in since October 7th. Let them go in, let CNN go in and decide for themselves. How about that?

If you think about some of the most spirited debates we’re having in our party right now—and they are important, and I don’t mean to smooth over those debates—we’re arguing about how to help ordinary folks. I’d rather be having that argument and be in this party than the party that is focused on giving billionaires tax cuts. Mamdani: PTET is essentially a loophole that allows high-income earners to reduce their federal tax burden. Who benefits? Millionaires and multimillionaires. More than 95% of PTET credits go to those making more than $1 million a year. More than 80% go to those earning more than $5 million a year. The PTET, in short, is a tax cut for the rich. We are not calling to eliminate the credit. We are instead asking the state for a modest reduction from 100% to 75%—that change alone will generate nearly $1 billion in additional revenue, revenue we can invest in buses that carry New Yorkers to work, the public schools that educate our children, and the public parks and beaches where we spend our summers.

Mamdani: So Muslims in this city, for almost as long as we have been in this city, have had to deal with those with power and platform dehumanizing us — to be called animals, insects, to be called a jihadist mayor…. This language is both painfully familiar to me as a Muslim New Yorker, but also as someone who was born in East Africa, and it is difficult to hear. There’s also a reminder that the silence that often greets this kind of bigotry, this kind of Islamophobia, is what allows it to fester — the temptation to treat it as politics as usual. And I want to be very clear that I have far more urgent work in front of me than indulging the provocations of a man who trades in outrage and, frankly, fears the city that we are looking to build — one where every single New Yorker who lives here can call it their home. I am not ashamed of who I am. I am not ashamed of my faith. I am not ashamed of being the first Muslim mayor in the history of our city. And there’s no amount of racism that will change the way in which I lead or the commitment that I hold to each and every New Yorker in this city.

What is paining Nigerians is that nothing to show for these incessant loans, they borrowed it for frivolities. How can a govt crying that there is no money awarded a contract of 15trillion to the company linked to the 1st family? You can't be ruling the country as a personal entity and expect us to keep quiet.

This is not the only vision for what it looks like to have politics in this country—that is so divorced from the needs and wants of everyday people. And what we are looking to show in New York City is an alternative to what has led so many to become disenchanted with the political process. We want to show that not only can government work, but it must, and that at its core, our responsibility is to working people—to ensure that we’re doing everything to make their lives easier. That has to be what drives our actions, and for too long, government has felt more like a distraction than a fulfillment of the needs of the people who’ve been left behind by the politics of today.

Many of them had no other option but to travel here by themselves across thousands of miles. When they made it here to our city, they thought that maybe the worst would be behind them, that things would be different. But now they will stand alone again as they face attacks from a trained government attorney across the aisle whose sole objective is to deport them back to the place they endured so much to escape. Some of these children are teenagers. Some are 10 years old. Some are five years old. Some are even younger. Many do not yet even speak the language in which they are to defend themselves. And even if they do, these are children that we are speaking about. They do not know how to navigate a courtroom. They do not know how to fill out an asylum application. They do not know how to ask for relief. They do not know how to gather evidence or to plead their case. And yet the consequences that they will face simply for coming to this country in search of a better life will be immediate and severe. Without legal representation, fewer than one percent of immigrant children are granted immigration relief. The federal government will tell you that they have fulfilled this contract with other legal service providers, yet they have selected firms that lack the credibility and the seriousness to protect these children. Take one organization whose founder and former CEO, a retired ICE agent, resigned due to sexual misconduct allegations.

First of all, I think everyone should have healthcare in America, regardless of who you are and what you’re doing. And the idea that there is anyone who is less deserving because of who they are is the problem to begin with. But that’s what they use to justify this, right? Because they want us to do the work for them. They want us to sort ourselves into the idea of deserving and undeserving, or pointing at our neighbors in terms of deserving and undeserving.
