Warnock: We can’t allow people to distract us, even with the ideological differences we have in our party. If you think about some of the most spirited debates we’re having in our party right now—and they are important, and I don’t mean to smooth over those debates—we’re arguing about... show more

AOC: But there are a lot of folks who talk about change in leadership that don't necessarily articulate what their direction is. And so I would say that it's important we talk pretty specifically about the kind of changes that we want, because there are a lot of people in this country, and there are a lot of forces and lobbyists that want the Democratic party to become even more pro-corporate than it is. And so when I talk about change, I talk about orienting the Democratic party to be unabashedly working class and to orient itself around working class Americans

Karl: What do you say to the moderate Democrats who say that those positions are going to doom the Democratic Party? AOC: In terms of dooming the party, the idea that there's a diversity of thought in America among everyday voting people is a fundamental fact of our country. I don't think that we should be worried about what somebody somewhere believes. I think we should be focused on what our plan to improve people's lives are.

Frost: One of the Republicans today, in response to the birthright decision, said, “Well, you know, we’re disappointed in it because there are people who are gaming the system, taking advantage of the system.” And what they’re saying is there’s people giving birth to children in our country. I thought this was the pro-birth, pro-family party. And my other question is, if they don’t want people to give birth, if they don’t want people to have families in this country, what do they want them to do if they get pregnant—have an abortion? I mean, the whole birthright citizenship thing, and the way they’re responding to it, just calls out the hypocrisy that they do not care about families, they don’t care about children.

.Zohran Kwame Mamdani and I have something huge in common — we’re both entirely focused on making life better for working people. We have very different ideas on how to do that, but I think that’s the sign of a healthy democracy: the ability to disagree civilly, debate thoughtfully, and grapple with the fact that what we’ve been doing isn’t working — even, and perhaps most importantly, when you come from the same political party. I love New York, but I’m happy to be on a flight home right now — because California, we have a whole lot of work to do.

Rahm Emanuel SLAPS AROUND the Democratic Party: “Went down to Mississippi, they went from 49th to 9th in reading. A lot of interest groups don’t want to talk about it. We messed this up in our party. We used to be really great about education; we’ve lost it because we’re not focused on the primary thing... 1 out of 4 children are missing 18% of the school year, and we’re not talking about it.” “We’re worried about the names of schools, bathrooms, and locker room access. Get back to what matters.”

AOC: Mr. Bezos’s newspaper was not happy that I discussed abuses of market power and scale. And I think there are quite a lot of billionaires—I mean, there aren’t a lot of billionaires in an absolute sense, but the proportion of billionaires upset with my comments is quite high. And I think that, to a working person and to working people, “earn” means something: the calluses on your hands, the aches in your joints, the way that we earn our way through school, through our first job. And I think that we are in an emperor-with-no-clothes moment when it comes to the American economy and our democracy. The Virginia redistricting maps were just overturned this morning by judges that are largely financed by a movement of billionaires. And American inequality is at an absolute peak. We have to ask ourselves if this is how we want to live as a society—if we want 3,400 people to be prioritized over well more than 300 million. And when we question the legitimacy of that power structure, the people at the top are going to be very mad. And the little hobby newspapers that they’ve bought—which they love to say are making the quality of everything better. Jeff Bezos purchased the The Washington Post. He laid off some of the highly qualified journalists that made it an American institution so that he could turn it into a mouthpiece that launders his personal agenda and opinions. And he is using it because, for a lot of folks, it’s not enough to be powerful—they have to be loved. And he then uses this mouthpiece to take aim at politicians who want to question the deeply unequal and unjust distribution of power in America. They want to continue to undercut, threaten, and punish those who say: democracy belongs at the ballot box—economic power, political power—and that power should belong to the people of this country, not the very few.

Trump: We’re making our country larger, we’re making our country stronger. And in the case of Canada—if this should happen—I don’t know how they can do it without us. Because without the U.S., Canada really doesn’t have a country. They do almost all of their business with us, and if we say we want our cars to be made in Detroit, with a stroke of a pen, I can make that happen. And other things, in addition to that, would not allow Canada to be a viable country.

Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock: "We are a party that believes in Israel's right to exist... what I want is an Israel that is safe and secure and that is at peace with its neighbors. And a two state solution that honors the humanity of all the people in that region."

Mayes: That’s what we’re talking about. We’re talking about having to physically protect the machinery of democracy. And to me, it is surreal that we are at that place. But what I want Americans to know is that you have a team of AGs that has been working together for more than a year now to protect democracy. And we’re going to keep doing that, no matter what it takes. That’s what I think our founding fathers and mothers would want us to do.

Mesa, AZ Republican Mayor John Giles: I do not recognize my party. I have something to say to those of us who are in the middle: You don’t owe a damn thing to that party. You don’t owe anything to a party that is out of touch and hell-bent on taking us backward. And by all means, you owe no loyalty to a candidate who is morally and ethically bankrupt. In the spirit of the great Senator John McCain, please join me in putting country over party and stopping Donald Trump.

Shuler: If you think about every industrial revolution we’ve been through, working people have helped us make that transition. It’s really because we’ve helped tame the technology and figured out how to use it in the most effective way. So I think your question about augmentation versus replacement is the big question we have. If we can all agree that this is about making our jobs better, safer, easier, and more productive, then we’re all in. But if you’re looking to de-skill, dehumanize, and replace workers, to put people out on the street with no path forward, then absolutely you’re going to have a revolution. So I think that’s something we all need to be very real about and think seriously about. If we’re going to have productivity gains, working people—the ones who make these industries happen—need to share in that. There hasn’t been a lot of discussion about that here. Of course, in terms of how we create policies, how we create tax infrastructure, whether or not we are redistributing—yes, that word is a dirty word around here—we need to talk about it and confront how we’re going to make sure working people share in the gains of these technologies. And if you look at the numbers of jobs, let’s talk about job quality. Yes, maybe there are a lot of jobs created, but what kind of jobs are we talking about? Are they jobs that can sustain a family? Is it a job where people can actually work one job? One job should be enough.

Should Christian Nationalism and Catholic Integralism be taken seriously? Ben Sasse answers. “‘Should they be taken seriously?’ I mean, ultimately I think no — but I want to be humble about how and why we get there.” “Can people who are skeptical of a lot of Enlightenment assumptions be reasonable in making those cases? Of course. I'm pretty sympathetic to a lot of what the Enlightenment offered us in response to many of the things that had just come before. But that doesn't mean that the Enlightenment is at all a foretaste of heaven.” “I think there is a temptation right now to have an over-realized eschatology where people want to find a city that has foundations. ‘Right now, dang it, I'm ready to build it and I want it to be better and I want it now. And I want to smash the people who are in the way of it’ is tonally the way a lot of these folks talk.” “But philosophically, having a debate is one thing and claiming that they're doing practical politics is quite another. So I think it is important, without us, you know, trying to answer a lot of these questions, to at least acknowledge there are Catholic claims about integralism that a lot of Protestants seem to pine for and lust after without working through — what would that really mean?” “I just look at a lot of the debates of the last two months about women's suffrage and I just kind of want to shake my head and say, ‘Man, this is a weirdo online phenomenon.’ There is no chance on earth that any of these folks who are advancing some sub-varieties of Christian nationalism are actually thinking there's math by which they're going to end women's suffrage. And yet they talk like it. Because online, it seems really provocative to say things like that. And I don't really know what it's worth to linger on some of these silly online debates.” Watch: Listen:

$Pritzker: These days, it seems like all the pundits and the naysayers, they want to say, well, kind of an endless loop of debate about the future of the Democratic Party. Are we socialists? Are we moderates? Are we conservatives? They want to divide all of us. Look, I don’t think we should draw these false and rigid divisions and paint a picture of a fractured party because it’s not true. We have a fight that we are in together. Yeah, there are some differences of opinion, but they’re not so big. And I got to tell you, if there’s a divide in the National Democratic Party, then it’s the one between Team Fight and Team Cave…$

AWFL climate doomers, hoping to shake their reputation as joyless scolds, are trying to bring "joy" to their doomsaying Spoiler alert: It's a huge cringe-fest. "If we don't center joy now, here in the process of bringing about this more vibrant, livable future, I think we actually pattern ourselves into something that isn't what we want." "The message of 'we have to fix the climate' doesn't resonate. It's more about: how do we love each other, how do we come to this place of well-being, how do we care about the well-being of ourselves, of our community, and our environment. And I think that that is joyful... There is love in this process." "If we want people to come off the sidelines and into the work, it's gotta feel good in some way. It can't be just about finger-wagging and telling people what they've done wrong if they want to be good and right and better. We have to have more openness. We have to throw a better party."
