For clarity, there have been cases in the past where the Whip Review Committee have found that what had initially been perceived as a whip strike on the day didn't actually make contact with the horse, so it was discounted. That is the case that is likely to be made here.

To clarify the rules, the limit on whip strikes on the Flat is six, but horses are only disqualified in cases of 10 strikes or more. Thus, whether that 10th strike is counted or not will decide if he is disqualified.

Another slight issue to the ‘it is easy to sort in 15mins and amend result for betting purposes’ argument.

The whole situation is embarrassing. The inference that 9 smacks of the whip is somehow okay but one more, the difference between winning and losing. I mean, it's utter nonsense isn't it?

Even if he missed with that one it’s still too many
