Well I hope you’re sitting down, but it turns out the billions Gavin Newsom promised to the victims of the Palisades and Eaton Fires are going everywhere but to victims of the Palisades and Eaton Fires Remember the Los Angeles riots from last June that Gavin Newsom still continues to downplay as fiery, but mostly peaceful protests? More than 13 million from Newsom’s fire victims fund went to CHP overtime from those fiery, but mostly peaceful protests. Victims are clearly and rightfully pissed.

Institutional investors are being blamed for everything happening in housing right now, but people forget what happened during the financial crisis. When real estate markets were rolling over, institutional capital was one of the only major bids left supporting the market. Without it, things could have been far worse for average Americans. That’s why I don’t like policies designed to push institutions out of housing. It’s government trying to manipulate markets, and history shows that usually ends badly. The flow of pension funds, sovereign wealth, and institutional capital is a foundational part of the economy, and many of the people proposing these bills have never actually lived through a true real estate down cycle.
