Many think Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert hated each other, and yes they would absolutely get bitchy, but they loved each other. When Gene died at only 53, Roger was devastated.

They 100% resembled a bickering married couple.

If they had been gay on top of it, this would have been heaven!

They were the Laurel and Hardy of movie reviewers

To this day, I feel sad when I find myself thinking that I'd like to know what Roger Ebert thinks of some movie.

Never bettered.

I damn near worship Roger Ebert I put him right up there with f****** Hemingway but man I have got a LOT of movies that I love that he just absolutely SHITS on 🤣.

I grew up in Chicago reading the Sun-Times (Ebert) and Chicago Tribune (Siskel) and they were both amazing. But even better was the competition between the sportswriters, who were often brought together on sports radio. It was a great time to be alive...

Unfortunately, the show eventually became more about their banter & bickering than about the movies.

I love watching them debate over movies. It took a lot to fill Siskel shoes. Roper certainly picked up where he left off & respected Gene's legacy.

They were one of the lasts true movie critics.

I never thought they hated each other. They just had different opinions at times. They always seemed cordial towards each other.

At the beginning they did not like each other. Over time that changed. They were friends eventually. The thing that always amused me was when they would go on talk shows, they would argue about who sat closest to the host. Whoever sat closest would be farthest next visit.

I was a kid when Gene, who hated Friday the 13th so much he intentionally added spoilers to his review so people wouldn't watch it. I convinced my Pop to take me out of spite. It was no Halloween but it was nowhere near as bad as he said.

I wonder what qualified Ebert as an expert on cinema when his co-written screenplays were outright bad. "Beyond The Valley of The Dolls". "Beneath The Valley of The Ultra Vixens". The majority of critics are like that. They can't sing, dance, act, write, produce, direct, and yet make a career out of critiquing those who actually create something.

Roger ran laps around Gene in the insult department. Insane, btw, that Gene was only 53 when he died. I would've swore he was older.
