The one review Roger Ebert got completely wrong the most has to be his review of DIE HARD, a film he absolutely hated, and Siskel loved.

Many think Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert hated each other, and yes they would absolutely get bitchy, but they loved each other. When Gene died at only 53, Roger was devastated.

Roger Ebert chose 'My Dinner with Andre' (1981) as the best film of 1981, and he & Gene Siskel later ranked it as the fifth-best and fourth-best film, respectively, of the 1980s. In 1999, Ebert added the film to his Great Movies essay series.

Roger Ebert & Gene Siskel didn’t always agree, but they each agreed that Fargo was the best film of 1996. Siskel recognized the genius of the Coen brothers early on & he adored this film. It pains me Siskel didn’t make it to see No Country for Old Men- he would’ve loved it.

Roger Ebert & Gene Siskel hated Jim Carrey's performance in "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" (1994). Ebert even predicted that Carrey won't have much of a career. After watching "The Truman Show" (1998), Ebert not only gave a thumbs up, but admitted that he didn't get much of what Carrey was doing at the beginning of his career, but over the course of 4 years he understood and started to appreciate his performances. Ebert & Siskel aired an entire episode for him. Ebert interviewed Jim Carrey before the said episode. During that interview, Carrey brought up the thumbs down review and said, "I really like to look at life as the negatives are things to learn from, or things to to tell you it's not all gonna be roses. That's how I looked at it [thumbs down]. I thought, 'I hope the movie does good but a lot of people aren't gonna like it.'" P.S: On this day, 28 years ago, Petere Wier's "The Truman Show" (1998) premiered in Westwood, California.

Roger Ebert gave a negative review of Mel Brooks's "Dracula: Dead and Loving It" (1995). One day, when Mel Brooks ran into Ebert, he said, "Listen, you, I made 21 movies. I’m very talented. I’ll live in history. I have a body of work. You only have a body.” Roger Ebert was saddened by the encounter as he was a big supporter of Mel Brooks' works from his debut. Ebert later wrote, "I was surprised he didn’t realize himself that 'Dracula: Dead and Loving It' (1995) just didn’t work. Yes, Brooks has put together a body of work and yes, a lot of it has made me laugh, but I would not be doing him a favor if I did not tell the truth."

Will Ferrell says his favorite review of Step Brothers came from Roger Ebert who called it “the end of Western civilization.” Ebert went further and urged readers not to buy it on DVD. Not to support movies like it. Will Ferrell: …”It’s like, the our most favorite review of Step Brothers was Roger Ebert… …who said, “This is the end of Western civilization.” Will Ferrell: And he went as far as to say, “Do not buy this on DVD when it comes out. Do not support movies like this, because it will, it will make other people think they should make movies similar to this.” “So, please…” It was a it was like a call to action. (Mimics Ebert) “McAdams… McKay and Ferrell… Ahhh… That is so delicious.” Only because we had gotten enough filled up on the love side, that we could handle it.”

"How has it not gone to a score review? That is a debacle...if (the score review process) doesn't change off the back of that, something is wrong". Mitch Cleary and Nat Edwards unpack the decision to not review Ben Keays' shot at goal.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) takes its source novel’s premise in a completely different direction. Author loved the film so much he wrote his sequel as a continuation of the movie, treating the original novel as one of Jessica Rabbit’s bad dreams.
