@pmarca Gosh, maybe the purpose of life isn’t to start companies and be a lotto ticket for VCs…maybe it’s just to figure out who you really are and be as happy as you can be.

@pmarca Suddenly makes sense why he hates the whole introspection thing.

@pmarca lol, part of the same reason I don’t drink, I’ve already finely tuned my brain chemistry for optimal neurosis

@pmarca we can cure you marc

@pmarca On the flip side, the ones who take psychedelics and lean into capitalism become Steve Jobs

@pmarca The bottom line is that no advice is universally applicable.

@hubermanlab @pmarca Ayahuaskamaxxing

@hubermanlab @pmarca Maybe psychedelics help them realize that whether a company is financially successful or not isn't the purpose of life. Starting a company is an experience, like any other experience, and maybe it's time to move on to the next experience?

@pmarca What would happen if pmarca took some psychedelics😏😂

@pmarca I’ve heard SV is filled with people using a combination of legal & illegal drugs including psychedelics. You aren’t going to find the people who go to the Valley bc psychedelics disrupted their default mode network & you aren’t seeing those who used psychedelics but didn’t leave.

@pmarca No psychedelics until Series B.

@pmarca Correlation =\= causation

@hubermanlab @pmarca I‘d rather be a happy surf instructor in Indonesia than be a miserable entrepreneur. Psychedelics are a gift. They reveal who you truly are. Not everyone has the courage to do this.

@pmarca Don’t all good entrepreneurs kind of have a chip on their shoulder? Something to prove?

@pmarca hmm, how do i add "don't worry psychedelics didn't fix what's wrong with me" to my pitch

For once he’s losing business when this happens. These guys get under pressure, somebody hands them psychedelics, they come out calmer and “enlightened,” see parts of life they never saw before, and then they quit. Speaking from my own experience and observations. A lot of driven people run their brain at high speed. It costs them in other areas of life. That drive builds the company. It also wears them out, and in many ways it’s real torture. It gets in the way in other parts of life too. Also as you get older, you have less energy, so it’s harder to keep going that way. So when they come out peaceful and leave, I get why it feels attractive. The thing that made them a founder is the thing they just turned off. Bad for the company. Maybe better for them. I don’t do psychedelics. I don’t need them to see this. My brain is already psychedelic enough on its own. Some stuff happened in my life, and it pushed me into a different mode. I’m still intense and see things, and my natural creativity makes me restless. I’m just trying to do things in a calmer way now, but it's hard. But I can relate to why they peace out.

@pmarca Nietzsche would see psychedelic healing as bugman. As decadent, as giving up.

@hubermanlab @pmarca Maybe their company was shit, failing to provide a service vaporware bullshit like 90% of software companies? Maybe they understood that better than anyone, deep down, and finally accepted it. In such cases (many such) it was the optimal outcome.

@hubermanlab @pmarca not everyone who uses psychedelics and runs a company is a noob with psychedelics

@pmarca i guess money is the bigger reason

@pmarca Doesn’t @pmarca say the best founders aren’t neurotic? But here he’s implying the neuroticism provides their spark

@pmarca Believe he's referring to ayahuaska. At that time articles were circulating of founders abandoning not just their companies but their families and doing shit like moving to Tuktuk giving guided excursions on longboats.

@pmarca This dude is a straight up sociopath

@pmarca The trick is to megadose on Psychedelics before u start your company

@pmarca It's part of VC agreements now, no psychedelics if we fund you.

@pmarca here we go again

@pmarca Only in Silicon Valley can finding inner peace become a portfolio risk. The founder stops obsessing over valuation and starts enjoying life. Meanwhile, the VC is calculating how enlightenment affects his fund returns. You can't make this stuff up.

@hubermanlab @pmarca Marc Andreessen is criticizing other founders who are still fantastically wealthy and also at peace. He really doesn’t have one ounce of self reflection these days. I’d almost feel bad for him if he weren’t trying to run our lives with his fellow billionaires.

@pmarca Seven fungi produce psilocybin type compound. Six identified as competing with termites for rotting wood. Makes the termites go off and do their own thing, don't work as a team to help process the wood.

@pmarca A founder is a machine of making money for them. If the machine breaks, no money for them, even if the machine is happy. It was never about the happiness of the machine, but about the money it could make them.

@pmarca Marc believes the purpose of all life to increase gdp

@pmarca huberman really out here making the case that burnout is just enlightenment with a surfboard

@pmarca achievement is either driven by curiosity / creativity, or avoidance / fear. arguably not a loss when the second group stops achieving, you make more space for projects of the first group who have genuine capacity
