Martin Scorsese’s refusal to compromise and pull punches while making Taxi Driver is one of the reasons he’s such an inspiring artist. My favorite part of Mr. Scorsese was Taxi Driver. This was when Marty, De Niro & Schrader pushed all their chips to the center of the table.

Robert De Niro’s best performance came in 1976 in Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver. I know De Niro already had an Oscar for The Godfather 2, but this is the film that made De Niro a household name & an icon: it elevated Bob from a great actor to a pop culture superstar. Cheers, Bob.

The older I get, the stronger I feel that Casino is a better film than Goodfellas. I think a big reason for that is Robert De Niro. De Niro is brilliant in both films but he’s underutilized in Goodfellas. In Casino, that’s not the case- Bob is given the keys to the car & he drives the shit out of it. I think Casino is the best De Niro-Scorsese collaboration behind Taxi Driver.

That you can see it in the way we play, and that it’s real and it’s sustainable, it helps you through hard times… it’s fun for them, and it’s real, you can’t fake that kind of stuff… I have made mistakes along the way, for sure, but it only reinforces… the single most important thing they’re doing is the selection of people, of course the talent is probably what puts you on the radar, but the selection of who the individual is and who they’ll be for your organization because it’s really hard to undue the damage that it causes when you don’t put the time or when you think you can change someone.
