Minnesota excepted a bowl bid after just his second season and a week later Notre Dame came calling, but it didn’t come without stipulations as Fr Joyce told him “we don’t take transfers here. We don’t redshirt athletes. We don’t have an athletic dorm. We don’t have an athletic table. We’re gonna play the most difficult schedule we can find and we expect to win. The other thing we don’t change and it’s nonnegotiable is we have a policy that the head coach can’t make more than the President at Notre Dame.” Lou Holtz responded with “that doesn’t bother me.” He excepted the position and the rest is history! ☘️
