MarineTraffic ship tracking data shows a significant drop in vessel movements through Strait of Hormuz after war started. Majority of vessels in the area had done U-turns, diverted to alternative routes/begun idling in Gulf of Oman, so fewer vessels heading toward Indian Ocean.

There are 24 Indian-flagged vessels in the #PersianGulf, towards the west of the Strait of Hormuz, carrying 677 Indian seafarers. Towards the east of the Strait of #Hormuz, in the #Gulf of #Oman, there were four vessels yesterday, and one vessel ,the Jag Prakash oil tanker has been moved In the Gulf region, a total of around 23,000 Indian seafarers are present, working across merchant vessels, harbour operations, and offshore #vessels. Strait of Hormuz closure risk rises amid escalating tensions Kpler data shows that 34% of all seaborne-traded oil has transited the Strait of Hormuz so far this year. The strait last effectively closed during the Iran-Iraq “Tanker War” in 1984 and remains a critical chokepoint for global oil and gas flows. Tensions are rising following Israeli strikes on Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility and the deaths of senior IRGC officials, increasing the risk of wider disruption in the Gulf. If flows were interrupted, few immediate alternatives exist for the oil that moves through the strait—heightening risk for global energy markets. March crossings through Strait of Hormuz led by liquid tankers According to #MarineTraffic and Kpler data, a total of 220 vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz during March across the dry bulk, liquids, LPG and LNG segments. Liquid tankers accounted for 111 crossings, or 51% of the total, followed by 82 dry bulk vessels (37%) and 27 LPG carriers (12%). No LNG crossings were recorded in March. Traffic remained skewed toward west-to-east movements out of the Gulf, which made up 149 crossings, or 68% of the monthly total. East-to-west transits into the Gulf accounted for 71 crossings, or 32%, highlighting an uneven flow pattern through one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints.
