Before Iron Man (2008), Marvel Studios was nearly bankrupt. Robert Downey Jr. was considered “uninsurable” by studios. Jon Favreau fought the studio to cast him anyway because Tony Stark’s flaws mirrored RDJ’s real life. Iron Man didn’t make RDJ iconic. RDJ made Iron Man impossible to replace.

Elon told @Katiemiller they modeled Iron Man after him in the movies. Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau toured SpaceX, met with him, and shot a big chunk of Iron Man 2 right there. That is pretty awesome.

Robert Downey Jr. is 61 as of today & I’ve found myself revisiting both Iron Man 1 & Iron Man 2. Jon Favreau & RDJ are an outstanding partnership, they definitely have a great chemistry together that I hope is rekindled. I might need to revisit Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 now 🎂.
