The entire interview is a TREASURE, so many nuggets about how to think, tackle problems, walk away from problems that are too hard, etc A wonderful history from the Web of Stories

Ideas are random. Some ideas are good. Some ideas make you believe that you speak with aliens. Those are evolutionary algorithms working in our heads.

Nash has the perfect Ph.D. recommendation letter. "John Nash is a mathematical genius." Basically it.

If you miss filtering for the John Nashs of the world when they are early/mid teens, you lose them forever.

Well, there are a few tricks like that in maths, like when you see a summation of integers, it's always interesting to consider breaking is down into the sum of a summation on odds numbers and a summation on even numbers. Easy way to impress people. When you see a problem that involves a circular geometry, it often pays to think of it in trigonometrical terms

To be fair though “use a Fourier series” is probably the answer to 80% of math/engineering problems.

So... I needed a few flowers to take home to my wife but didn't have much money to spend. I went to the flower girl on the corner who always had some extra or passed over by other customers, and explained my situation She casually tied up a small bunch and said "These might be nice." so I took them home, trimmed some and rearranged the rest, put a bow on my little creation and gave them to my wife... and THEY WERE A HIT! "Perfect," murmured my wife. And I realized how many relationships that flower girl was solving each day. She sure had a knack with flowers.
