We have received several deeply worrying allegations of unnecessary or disproportionate use of force by security forces during protests organized by youth groups demonstrating against corruption and the recent Government ban on social media platforms. We call on the authorities to respect and ensure the rights of peaceful assembly and freedom of expression. All security forces must comply with the basic principles on the use of force and firearms by law enforcement officials. Nepal enjoys a lively democracy and active civic space, and dialogue is the best means to address young people’s concerns. From current #KIITUniversity suicide case handling It appears like the BJP Odisha is still in opposition and are in a very powerless helpless condition. Nothing they are able to do in terms of bringing things under control. Odisha new CM Sh. Mohan Majhi could have shown his leadership and maturity by coming forward for the International students safety and well being but he didn’t . However Nepal PM intervened and has directed officials from their Embassy reach Bhubaneswar to take care of Nepal students. It is clearly evident from social media clips When Nepalese students protested post the girl suicide, KIIT forced them to vacate hostels and return to Nepal. Hostel authorities even mocked the protesters, boasting KIIT’s budget is bigger than your country GDP,etc etc and even they passed other racist comments .. Coincidentally we have the best of Rockford specialist as Higher Education Minister in State and at centre we have mahaaan son of soil as Union minister of Education. It is appalling how hopelessly Government is handling the case and letting Odisha name go down nationally and internationally.
