A giant mysterious metal cylinder has left locals stumped after the debris appeared suddenly on the shoreline of WA's Midwest. The huge metal object was found on a beach near Green Head on Sunday, with local residents reporting the suspicious item to police. The item is currently being investigated by the state's defence units. WA Police Force have said the object is currently "being treated as hazardous until the origin of it can be established," however can confirm the "object did not originate from a commercial aircraft." It is getting cold, blustery and wet out there! 📡🥶 If you were watching the National Weather Service (NWS) radar data out of NWS Tampa Bay this afternoon, you would have noticed what appeared to be a sharp increase in the coverage of showers from one frame to the next over the Tampa Bay region. 📡 ☔️ In reality, the precipitation was not increasing. The trained NWS meteorologist and radar operator shifted the radar scanning strategy to better detect lighter, lower-level precipitation. Notice the change at the top of this radar animation with the “VCP”, or volume coverage pattern. Watch it change from VCP 215 to VCP 34. What does this mean? 🤔 The National Weather Service Doppler radar volume coverage pattern (VCP) modes determine how radar beams are emitted and the angle at which they scan the atmosphere. VCP Mode 215: This mode provides higher vertical resolution due to more elevation angles being processed. It typically includes more volume scans, focusing on detecting severe weather phenomena such as thunderstorms and tornadoes effectively. VCP Mode 34: This mode offers lower vertical resolution with fewer elevation angles. It is designed for less demanding weather situations, providing broader coverage and is often used during more stable weather conditions. As these sprinkles and light showers continue to develop and move ashore from the Gulf within a blustery northwest wind, much colder (and drier) air will overspread the area through tonight into Sunday morning when the potential exists for isolated flurries or frozen rain drops (i.e., sleet or ice pellets). While the US finally had a break from tornadoes, it was CANADA that surprised many when it dropped a wedge tornado near Shoal Lake, Manitoba yesterday evening. In this radar loop, you can see where this tornado's origins came from starting with the outflow boundary (the line of weak reflectivity values the storm pops out from to the east of the radar site). Outflow boundaries concentrate extreme low-level rotation and force rapid upward motion, such that when supercells interact with these boundaries, the pre-existing spin can be stretched into tornadoes. These can happen super fast, and it remains something we don't fully understand. In the span of 30 minutes, we went from there being no discernible storm to there being a wedge on the ground, without a mesocyclone or a nudger. What is even more amazing is that despite Canada's radars being lower-resolution compared to what we have in the US, you can still quite clearly see the hook echo and the eventual debris ball that forms on reflectivity. Luckily, no injuries or fatalities have been confirmed from this tornado at this time.

Pope Leo XIV was in Naples today for the veneration of San Gennaro and to visit the shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii. My eldest daughter Rafaella was also in Naples as she was there on a Catholic hen party with her good friend that is getting married this Summer. They had just got the wedding veil in Naples and the Pope was passing through the streets of Naples. As he was passing, they called out from the crowd to the Holy Father and asked if he would bless the veil. This is what happened.
