Airplanes can be misused, and airplanes have been misused. That doesn’t mean we should ban the building of airplanes. ALERT: Man had to be rescued after getting stuck “in a crevice that was basically designed the exact shape of him" for over 6 hours. Park rangers responded to a call around 6:30 PM about a man from Brooklyn, New York, who was cave exploring Merlin’s Cave in the town of Canaan with his friends when he got so stuck he couldn't move. Rangers were able to reach the man at around 9 PM, and the temperature had dropped to 50 degrees and 100% hummidity. DEC Forest Ranger Lt. John Gullen said, “There’s still three of his buddies, who were still with him, and they’re trying to get him out… At this point, they’ve been in the cave for many hours, so they are all hypothermic.” Rescuers had to crawl 400 feet, which took 20 minutes, to reach the man stuck in what Gullen describes as “a crevice that was basically designed the exact shape of him.” When they could not budge the man, rescuers went to retrieve a rock drill while Gullen stayed with him, telling jokes to keep him from freaking out. Gullen stated that once rescuers got the drill, which took an hour and a half, it took less than 30 minutes to free the man. “Once we were ere able to get to a point where we could high-five, we were high-fiving… It’s a feeling that I wish everyone could experience, ’cause there’s nothing like it.”

…every time, there’s a lump in my throat. It’s hard to walk here. It feels like they are all looking straight at you. There are no strangers here. In the news, it’s just numbers and reports, but here-it’s specific people and their eyes. We all try to live 'in the here and now,' but do we actually know how to do that? Or are we just passing the time that was gifted to us... We all call ourselves civilized, but in practice, some truly are, while others just pretend; they never learned how to solve problems with words. And we Ukrainians have to defend our right to life from those who have forgotten where their cave is. A life without war sounds like some kind of fantasy today. But that is exactly where we all want to be. Right now. Eternal glory to our defenders.

“The idea was, when he (Vincent D'Onofrio) decides to reveal himself they did a special version of his makeup that was very stretchable. What he does is he grabs the back of his head and he just starts tugging on it. The idea was he would pull it as far as he could, and then we would take over stretching the image, making it appear to be distorting in a way that it physically couldn’t. Then basically when I shot Vince I just kept urging him to pull harder, and harder, and harder until finally the final take he just pulled it until the makeup just ripped. We said, ‘Okay, we got it.’ That’s what’s in the show because it’s really tugging on his face the maximum it could be done, and then we just extended that. Helped by a little bit of editing we were able to put a ridiculously large CG creature inside of a human sized body, and we’re not seeing it all at one time, you kind of get away with the fact that, well maybe he was in there he was just hunched up.” – Eric Brevig, Men In Black visual effects supervisor.

The Pain Cave. Ultras are known for the “Pain Cave,” this mythical place where athletes suffer for hours on end. What I learned after my bike accident in April is that the Pain Cave doesn’t mean “pain” like a head injury or broken bones. It means stripping down the physical artifice of normal life and exposing your muscles and sinew to the world. It’s totally vulnerable, and I (the anxiety-riddled former football player who very few people believed was setting a reasonable goal) wanted to see what would happen when I was stripped down to that vulnerable place. Leadville was my first 100 miler, and I didn’t care when and how I got to experience the Pain Cave. I just wanted to experience it of my own volition, not because of a damn car making a left turn without seeing me. And I learned that I could go into that cave, turn on a light, and find thousands of people giving me love and telling me how I inspired them no matter how the race turned out. I hope I can inspire other people to do things that mortify them and seem impossible. Because when you venture into the cave and make yourself that vulnerable, I bet that there might be something special waiting for you when you turn on a light 🧡 This video is from the 20% grade on Powerline climb at mile 80. I didn’t want to walk a step of the race, and I was having doubts. I was in the cave. And the believers were with me in this moment, carrying me to a record I didn’t know I could achieve. Thank you to all my cave friends 🙏 Also, on the drive home to our AirBnB after the race, I thought I was dying. It was my first 100, and it felt so strange. I made Megan pull over. She’s a doctor, and she assured me I wasn’t dying. But I wasn’t sure. So I sat there, about to pass out, when suddenly: FARRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTT. I let out a 20-second fart from the pits of hell. “It was just a fart panic,” Megan said. Ultras are the best.
