Being Dominant means being the One in Control. Some people love it and some hate it, but either way, there is always someone in control and the areas where you are not the one in control, are where you have given that control to someone else! Being the one in control means being the one people TRUST to lead, to be in charge. And for us to hold that responsibility, we gotta be not only comfortable with that role, but to love it! To want it. Control holds negative connotations, yet if it is exerted by someone with positive intentions, it is very healthy. It means you trust yourself and don't need to rely on others to direct you. NOT being in control means chaos. It means helplessness. It means inability to make decisions. Or to take initiatives. It means you are the one that follows. And if that is what you actually desire you have to be conscious of that choice. Otherwise you fall into that role and then wonder why nothing goes as you want. And if you choose to follow, choose your leader wisely. There always is someone in control, someone in charge, someone that leads. There is always a power dynamic. Truth is, we feel safe with those in control. Especially when they show us that them being in that role is positive for us. But so many people trust others more than they trust themselves! Which means being constantly influenced by everyone else's option and advice... which makes then the ones in control of your life! Decide WHO you want to take control when you want or need it, but also choose when YOU should be The One in charge. Developing that self-trust requires radical self responsibility. Which is what people struggle with. Nobody wants to be responsible for anything. And then we blame everyone for why our lives are not what we want them to be. And if you DO want to dominate, start by controling your own Self, your own thoughts, your own life. You can't expect others to trust YOU if YOU don't. Think about it... those that are in control are the people that have the most influence in the world. So if conscious people who desire to create a positive change take more control/responsibility, it would literally change society as we know it.

Andrew Huberman on why you can't think your way out of stress: Huberman is asked what he means when he says you cannot control the mind with the mind. His answer reframes how we should approach stress, anxiety, and emotional regulation entirely. "If you're very upset, it's hard to talk yourself out of it. If you're stressed, it's hard to think yourself out of it." He explains that when we're in heightened emotional states, we tend to default to mental strategies, rationalizing, "third personing" ourselves, texting a friend, trying to reason our way back to calm. But according to Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D., this rarely works: "It's very hard to get yourself out of those states with thinking alone." The solution, he argues, lies not in the mind but in the body. "The beauty of the autonomic nervous system is that it traverses the brain and the body and it connects to essentially all the organs of the body. And it's a two-way street such that certain behaviors, even certain patterns of breathing etc. allow us to shift between very very alert and stressed and very calm." This two-way street is the key insight. The body doesn't just receive signals from the brain, it also sends them back. Shifting your physiology shifts your mental state, which in turn shifts the kinds of thoughts and actions available to you. "If you're very very stressed, you're very very upset, two things happen. One, it's very hard to take your focus off whatever it is that's upsetting you. And if you don't know what's upsetting you, you know, pure anxiety, but you don't know why, it's very hard to take your mind off of the feelings of anxiety." In other words, anxiety hijacks your attention and then traps you there. Trying to think your way out only tightens the grip. The way out is to move through the body first: "If we turn to the body and certain behaviors, we are able to move ourselves along the autonomic continuum. And at that point, when we've done that successfully, we are able to think about things differently." "If you can't control the mind with the mind, look to the body to control the mind."

I asked Luke Kornet about his memories from stretches where he was a DNP for many games in a row, and what his message is to the young guys who find themselves in that position now: “It's just a lot of peace to come to life of accepting the position that you're in and then just doing the best with that, versus trying to fight it and want to be in a different one.” “You can spend a lot of time worrying about things that you can't really control. But when you just take the opportunity that you have and do the best with that, you can have days like today where a lot of guys came in and were able to contribute. You can have peace about knowing that you did your job well, just as you did the day before, the day after. It might just look a different way every time. I was asked, how do I manage stress from economic shocks, geopolitical shocks, and all the things that are going on? While my typical approaches like "pain plus reflection equals progress" and meditation are highly effective, I’ll pass along another principle that I think is the best advice: The Serenity Prayer. I view this almost like a game. These macro things are happening, but there are also a lot of joyous things and choices that exist with us. It’s really up to me to navigate them. What can I control that's really important to me? What can't I control? I can't live forever, so I’m not going to get stressed out about that. But on the other hand, I can control certain things. Having that equanimity allows me to approach life in a way where I don't get hijacked. It is logical, real, and practical. Look around you. You’ve got wonderful things and things you aspire to. Don't get so attached. If you navigate your life well, you're going to be fine.

Steve Jobs on how he learned to run a company: Question: "You're 21. You're a big success. You know, you've just sort of done it by the seat of your pants. You don't have any particular training in this. How do you learn to run a company?" Steve Jobs: "You know, throughout the years in business, I found something, which was that I always ask why you do things. And the answers you invariably get are, oh, that's just the way it's done. Nobody knows why they do what they do. Nobody thinks about things very deeply in business. That's what I found. I'll give you an example. When we were building our Apple I's in the garage, we knew exactly what they cost. When we got into a factory in the Apple II days, the accounting had this notion of a standard cost, where you'd kind of set a standard cost and at the end of a quarter you'd adjust it with a variance. And I kept asking, well, why do we do this? And the answer was, well, that's just the way it's done. And after about six months of digging into this, what I realized was the reason you do it is because you don't really have good enough controls to know how much it costs. So you guess, and then you fix your guess at the end of the quarter. And the reason you don't know how much it costs is because your information systems aren't good enough. But nobody said it that way. And so later on, when we designed this automated factory for Macintosh, we were able to get rid of a lot of these antiquated concepts and know exactly what something cost to the second. So in business, a lot of things are, I call it folklore. They're done because they were done yesterday and the day before. And so what that means is if you're willing to sort of ask a lot of questions and think about things and work really hard, you can learn business pretty fast. It's not the hardest thing in the world. It's not rocket science. It's not rocket science."

All good answers, but all wrong answers. THE MOST important time of the game is the time in between pitches. Ballplayers should be looking to win this time by being in complete control of their breath, self-talk, and focus. As the great Ken Ravizza would often say, “You have to control yourself so that you can control your performance.” Well, when you control and WIN the time in between pitches, you drastically increase your odds for success, especially if your competition isn’t doing that. So, the next time you step on the field, be on purpose with what you do in between pitches. Your results will no longer happen by accident…they will happen by intention. *The same applies to the time in between shots, plays, etc., based on whatever sport you play.
