Matthew McConaughey reveals the difference between a nice guy and a good man "A nice guy gets along. They don't necessarily have discernment or judgment, not sure what they stand for or stand against. It's like yes, yes, yes, sure" "A good man has ideals that they stand for... show more

Legit, the devil can be nice, but he can never be good.

McConaughey talks like every sentence came from a leather journal he found in a truck at sunset. But he’s right. A nice guy keeps nodding. A good man knows when the mission’s sideways, the perimeter’s crossed, and it’s time to move the van.

Why do people think this dude is an eternal fountain of wisdom? Seems like he spends an awful lot of time contemplating his own navel. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

A "nice guy" operates out of fear of rejection, constantly changing his stance to appease the room. A good man understands that true leadership means standing firm on your values, even if it makes you unpopular. If you don't stand for something definite, you will tolerate anything; and that is the fastest way to lose your leverage.

First I’m a fan but buttttt this is a man with too much time on his hands. Most of us just do. No need to break down the do to a microscopic level.

This is the most neutered, pussy-ass, weakest take on manhood I’ve ever seen. McConaughey really said ‘don’t be a dick’ and thought that was profound. Soft af!

Actors presuming they are philosopher, s

This is the distinction most men never make. The nice guy outsources everything. His health to whatever the doctor says. His standards to whatever the room wants. His opinions to whatever keeps the peace. Yes, yes, sure, whatever you think is best. The good man does the harder thing. He decides what he stands for and owns it. He reads his own labs instead of waiting to be told he's "fine." He gets up at 4 when nobody is watching. He can look at something and say "this is for me, that is not," and mean it. It isn't about being difficult. McConaughey nailed that part. It's not a license to be a jerk. It's discernment. Knowing what's worth defending, and being willing to be a little less popular to defend it. I think about this most as a father. My kids won't remember whether I was affable. They'll remember whether I stood for something. Whether I did the hard thing when the easy one was sitting right there. A good man isn't looking for a fight. But when something he loves gets trespassed on, his health, his family, his people, he does what he can to stop it. Be the good man. The nice guy gets forgotten by Friday. Don’t wait for the diagnosis. Read the label.

Agree. Not sure I understand the negative comments on this post.

Well said. The world needs a lot more "good people" and a lot less "nice people".

that line about discernment is the whole distinction

God, once upon a time, there were actually highly educated, learned men who were platformed. Men like Gore Vidal. Now we have this shit...Why don't we platform other middle-aged-men who have a BA in Radio, TV, Film...

I love listenin to @McConaughey insights!

Truth bomb🤯😵💫🫨 my wish is for everyone to heed your advice, your wise man Matthew.. and these words need to be written on the back of people's eyelids.

Matt is a dog. Good man

The best indicator that you’re living YOUR best life is the number of people who don’t like you. Give a man $100 and he will “like” you. Tell a man to fuck off and get his own money and he will not like you. You need to increase the number of people who don’t like you.

This captures the essence of my new book

Nice guys have zero self-respect. Going out of your way to please everyone will make you miserable.

Sounds like he's been listening to Jordan Peterson.

@brucefenton Sounds like a movie character.

Pocos buenos hombres de fe existen.

When you're in a nightmare, do you wake up?

Salty !!!

A good man isn't defined by popularity, but by integrity. 👏

fuck off you pompous twatwaffle

Good.

False dichotomy

Damn

Well said

He’s really embracing this new role of “keeping it real life guru”

Yes

Amen to being one of the “good” guys. So tired of the cyber truck hate I’ve let people know in person now…

McConaughey makes a strong point. Knowing what you stand for really does set a good man apart from just being nice.
