A large-scale attack on Kiev last night and a continued naval blockade on Ukraine. NATO's strategy of increasing deep strikes into Russia to weaken Russia's economy and make Russian civil society also feel the pain of war is a disastrous plan - for Ukraine. Why does NATO go up the escalation ladder at a time when Ukraine has run out of air defence missiles? Russia always had the option to intensify strikes on Kiev and impose a naval blockade to make Ukraine a de facto landlocked country. I believe that this war would have ended a year or two if the Ukrainians didn’t have drones because the Ukrainians have a significant shortage of manpower, a significant shortage of artillery. And in a war that was heavily dependent on just manpower and artillery, I think the Ukrainians would have collapsed a while ago. But the drones have really helped keep them in the fight in an important way. So that’s one dimension to the drone issue. Then there’s the whole question of using drones in long-range attacks into Mother Russia. And this of course is what the Ukrainians have been doing big time in recent months. And I don’t think that those attacks have had any meaningful impact on the course of the war. And of course as you were alluding to, if anything it speeded up the end of the war because there is good reason to think that the Russian response to these long-range drone attacks by the Ukrainians is that the Russians have decided to retaliate by attacking Odessa and other Ukrainian sites on the Black Sea. And this has had a devastating effect on Ukraine because so much of Ukraine’s agricultural product as well as its industrial product moves out of Ukraine via the Black Sea ports. And of course the most prominent one is Odessa. But what’s happened here, and it’s very important to emphasise this, is that the Russians have basically closed the Odessa ports. And the end result is that today Ukraine is effectively a landlocked country. And given the percentage of exports, Ukrainian exports that go out of those ports through the Black Sea, this is going to have devastating effects on the Ukrainian economy. This is a hypothesis that seems counterintuitive, but given the length of the war, we have to take it seriously. That hypothesis is now being challenged by effect of Ukraine’s strikes inside Russia on thier civilian population. For a good part of this war of aggression, Russian people haven’t seen it, felt it, or regarded it as a burden. They’ve been subjected to unrelenting propaganda that this is defensive war, Ukraine is tool of the West. This is now wearing thin, and while I don’t see an immediate threat to Putin, there’s a shift going on in Russia. Which suggests that Ukraine should continue, expand its offensive operations even deeper into Russia.

We in Ukraine have responded positively to all proposals from the U.S. and President Trump to end all these attacks and killings. Ukraine has also proactively put forward various formats to bring the war to an end. It is Putin alone who is interested in these killings. Every day, this war remains solely his war – the war of Russia alone. And we expect the world to draw conclusions from this. Especially after the drone incursions into Poland – a country that is extremely important for the security of all Europe. A country that respects America and President Trump. It is crucial that Europe truly understands: when it comes to Russia, it is not about one neighbor or another, it is about everyone. Otherwise, Russia will draw its own conclusions and only expand the war – and not necessarily against Ukraine alone.
