May 26th, 1996: Elastica performed their hit, ‘Connection’ to a live audience on David Letterman. It’s wild to think that bands this effortlessly cool existed and could garner massive exposure & airplay. We used to be a society.

Not a bad song, even if it is a blatant rip off from Wire.

I love Wire but the vocals melodies with Connection are phenomenal.

The 90s were a very cool time in music. Without a doubt, my favorite - course it would be, coming of age and all that. Don't give up on today. The industry is all f'd up for reasons but there's still legit motherfuckers out there making music. Check it👇

Conan was the best at that. He specifically looked for bands that needed exposure.

True!

First album was elite. Still play it top to bottom every couple of months.

The entire album is strong.

First album was excellent. One of the best Britpop bands for sure

Could never work out if I fancied Fleischmann or not. Probably doesn’t matter now

Now that USAID is gone, maybe we will be a society again.

👀

Hell yeah, that Letterman clip still goes hard. Elastica had that effortless cool that just doesn’t get the same mainstream push anymore. missed those days fr 💯

Shut up dork

@NatashaSerne Justine had it in spades, the other two had a charisma bypass and the drummer was, well, a drummer.

Sold half a million in the US. Only behind Blur and Oasis in terms of Britpop groups. Hardly remembered in the UK

Anyone else feel the need to scream “hello!” into a giant mobile phone?

Their first album was fantastic. Zero skips. I still listen to it often. So sad we never got more music from this band.

When I first heard that album every song was fire and I was psyched and thought I’d be listening to their new stuff for decades and then they just vanished and nobody knew why. 😢

@ooana Pink Flag rip-off artists

Spot on

Seen them live in Newcastle in the 90’s good times

It’s wild to think that bands this effortlessly cool existed and could garner massive exposure & airplay. Yeah. Wild. From a very humble London private day school background with all it's connections, into massive exposure, seemingly at will. Must be pure talent at play. 🤪

The theme tune for Trigger-Happy TV.

Donna Matthews 😍

Look what was stolen from us

God they were awful.

DA indubbiamente aveva gusti d'eccellenza...un buongustaio del cibo fresco, vivace e genuino ‼️↩️

Oh yeah - that sixth form band that did Wire covers.

Wow you’re so cool

And you're a member of the dumbest fucking cult in US history with (who'd a thought it!) *terrible* taste in art. MAGA are always culturally-illiterate. Imagine getting dewy-eyed about such utter mediocrity.

I’m a successful marketing director for a variety of projects. You’re not as smart as you think you are lol

LOL! Only an absolute fuckwit would say "I? Tasteless and dumb?! I thinnk not! For I am...A SUCCESSFUL MARKETING DIRECTOR FOR A VARIETY OF PROJECTS!" You're just making yourself look like more of a fucking dickhead.

Calm your tits holy shit lol

I'd bet money you're a bot but just in case: Cool tactic, dude. The ole "Calm down!" thing. I'm calm now and was calm then. Just pointing out the absolute wankery of your reply, that's all.

They're back btw

Hasn’t aged well imo - I much preferred The Stranglers, who they were obviously heavily influenced by..

They’re great too. All bands are influenced by other bands lol

@girthkokowicz they ripped off so many bands in the process though

A record label paid a lot of money for that massive exposure and airplay.

That’s kind of my point, labels now have abandoned artist development, and pretty much only work with people who have already established a large social media presence which often caters to the lowest common denominator.

I highly disagree with this: labels are signing bans every day. Small labels, medium-sized labels, large labels. Yes, it's preferred to have a large social media presence, but nothing has changed about the way that records get promoted.

Lmao you’re retarded.

HELLLLLOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! CANT TALK IM IN A BOOKSHOP, A BOOKSHOP!!!!!! CIAO!!!!!

Calm your tits lol

Lmao

Its all synth. Theie axes aren't turned on

When you are tied into a scene you only last as long as the scene does unless you can cross over, they couldn’t.They came and they went, can’t remember anything else they did.

Pretty sure they tried very hard to be "cool" so hard in fact that Elastica only managed to make one album , it wasn't much over twenty minutes long either 😂.

Please, send us a link to your amazing music.
