The National People's Army, the first and only German army that was not involved in any war. I did my military service in it.

How deppressing drab and decrepit the buildings in the background are. It was ten years after the war and no reconstruction yet. It was commendable the Soviet effort to keep German traditions but it was just a hollow shell.

They seemed a happy bunch…

And thankfully they're now free.
