#Bulldozer | #MP A BJP MLA from Mauganj, Madhya Pradesh, Pradeep Patel, took the law into his own hands on Nov 19, 2024 defying the Supreme Court’s directives on bulldozer justice or demolition. Patel attempted to evict residents from a plot of land in Khatkari village, where 43 families, including 7 tribal and 13 Hindu have been living for generations. Patel and right-wing groups alleged that the villagers, particularly Muslims, had encroached on land associated to the Mahadev Temple and demanded their eviction. They argued that the Revenue Court had ruled in favor of eviction from the 9 acres 27 decimal of Temple's land, yet the administration had not carried complied with the order. Advocate Anil Tiwari, who is defending the case, clarified that the 9 acres 27 decimal land does not belong to the temple as the Temple itself constructed on Revenue's land much later. It's a Govt land. When the district admin sought time to comply with the Supreme Court’s demolition guidelines after the Revenue Court ruled in favor of eviction, BJP MLA Patel allegedly went to the village with a bulldozer to demolish homes, amid religious slogans. This led to violent clashes, with arson and incidents of stone-pelting in the village. To maintain law and order, the police arrested Patel imposing a curfew in the locality. Meanwhile, villagers claimed that a mob of 25-30 people attacked their homes on Tuesday, targeting Muslims and their properties. Police lodge FIRs against 30 individuals involved in the incident. Mauganj District Magistrate Ajay Shrivastava explained that all the families were given eviction notices after the Revenue Court order. The admin ensured to comply with the Supreme Court's order and taking actions accordingly. Brushing aside BJP MLA's claims, Adv Anil Tiwari said that R/W Groups propagating that it's a Muslim village which is not true. "It's a village with a mixed population and over 30 families were given lands under different Govt schemes over the years. And some homes were built on Govt's land," he said. Instead of issuing eviction notice to only illegally built homes, the Revenue Court ordered to evict the entire village and Dist admin subsequently served eviction notices to all. We have had cordial relations with informal traders for a year but lately there have been unfortunate incidences that seek to sabotage that. We will take disciplinary action. I have ordered the immediate release of all confiscated items, apologized to the traders and personally compensated each of them to the tune of 10,000 shillings each. Even if the traders were operating without the required documentation, including a Medical Certificate from Public Health that every food handler must have for the safety of Nairobians, they did not deserve such treatment and we are dealing with this internally. 🚨Relief effort update - yes it is a long post, but please read. I want to start off by explaining how strong the Appalachia people are, because the scale of devastation is truly bizarre. We have had team members on the ground reach some of the most rural places that havent seen a single "agency" since this has all happened. Our crews have reached people whose homes no longer exist, who have lost loved ones and who have nothing but the clothes on their backs, people completely cut off from the outside world. That being said, the common theme through every one of these interactions, is that the citizens who live in these communities still have their heads held high and have rolled up their sleeves and begun the process of trying to clean the FEET thick layer of mud covering everything to see what is even left to salvage. These people are "mountain tough" and their resolve is unbreakable, but they need our help, AS A COUNTRY. One of our forward crew member on the ground, providing updates on road conditions into towns that are cut off and need help, has hiked into several places that have been neglected. The pictures i include in this post are of the area in and surrounding the Green Mountain area. The level of destruction depicted in the photos and videos do not do the scope of the damage justice, but you can tell from the imagery, that this situation is not only challenging, but dire. Critical infrastructure is completely decimated in most of these places and will take months if not longer to repair or rebuild. We have coordinated a group of Doctors that will be bringing life saving medical supplies, well above and beyond basic first aid needs. They will be traveling by helicopter to areas that are inaccessible by vehicle to give that life saving aid. We have been able to get supplies into the remote town of Marshall, where their homes have been either damaged by the flood waters to the point of being unlivable or just completely deleted from the earth. Talking with these people, they have concerns for the future, and not just the coming days or weeks, but in the near future as winter creeps into the area. As that happens, the challenges they are presented with become exponentially more difficult and so much more dire. From the difficulty of building temporary housing to the logistics and availability of supplies to rebuild, the geographical location of this devastation is creating more problems to overcome than what most would associate with "hurricane damage". As the country descends on Asheville, supplies and help has become bountiful there and our operations will begin to shift further into the mountains to help those that have not had help. Supply needs are changing rapidly, and as they do we are having to pivot on what we are procuring to bring into the affected areas. I call on the people of this country to help us help these people. They have been largely neglected and are deserving of our compassion and help in any way that we can deliver it. I can't speak for the government and what they are or aren't doing, but i can speak for our efforts. We are just everyday citizens, husbands, wives, sons and daughters, standing together to help those in need. We will not stop, until our mission is complete.

#WATCH | Delhi | Gymkhana club row | Advocate Naman Joshi says, "Abhishek Manu Singhvi made a couple of arguments - under the law, if there is to be a resumption of a lease and somebody has to take possession, you have to follow the procedure that is laid down in the Supreme Court's judgment and express newspapers and the government is at no better footing. The government would also then have to file a civil suit which is not what the courts that seem to be on the way that they were following. Second - the notice that has come on 22nd is unspecific and does not specifically talk about what public purpose, what urgent need is there to take over this land in such a short span of time... This lease has been in place for 100 years now, almost. And third - the members having to come would have come to court but today the Gymkhana club is run by 15 people who are nominated by the Government of India. The lesser is the Government of India and the lessee is controlled by the Government of India, so therefore there will be no real fight and which is why the members have to come and agitate the cause in a derivative action to say that the club needs to be protected. He also says, "Fortunately, the court found favour in these arguments. The Solicitor General also then appeared in the matter and said that the government of India will do nothing without following the due process of law. Defendant number 2, the club's counsel, also said that the club has, in fact, written a letter and opposed the government's move to take over and resume the land. The court has taken note of these concerns and passed the order after recording the Solicitor General's statement... It is a reprieve for the club... There will be no eviction on June 5th is what the order would read like."

#WATCH | Hyderabad: Telangana Minister Mohammad Azharuddin says, "There has been a lot of talk about Maulana Azad University land. A lot of people have given their statements and I just want to clarify that the Govt does not have any intention to take the land of Urdu University. The University land is intact. The District Collector has issued a notice on audit remarks to make them utilise the land effectively. After notice, 3 days back University Registrar spoke to the Collector and explained about future plans and accordingly the Collector assured to drop the notice to that effect. Collector gave a press note too and it even came in the press. Govt does not have any intention to take back the land, it's very clear."

Zubeidah Kananu: Don't lead a country out of emotions. The government needs to respect the media and give us the right and opportunity to do what is rightfully our mandate. We condemn what the government has done and the statement given by the director general of the Communication Authority and we urge all media houses to ensure that any information they publish is verified, accurate and is safe for public consumption. We ask, what is it that we are hiding? What is it that we don't want the public to know, the audience to be informed of? What is it they are hiding as a government? #GenZRevolt
