Shield AI has unveiled the X-BAT, a fully autonomous jet-powered aircraft that can take off and land vertically without a runway. The aircraft can fly at altitudes of up to 50,000 feet and has a range of around 2,000 nautical miles. Powered by Hivemind AI software, X-BAT is designed to carry out complex missions, operate in swarms, and work alongside piloted aircraft.

Lockheed Martin's Advanced Development Programs (ADP), also known more colloquially as Skunk Works, has unveiled a new, high-end stealth drone for the U.S. Air Force’s Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) Program, dubbed Vectis. According to TWZ, Vectis is designed to be highly adaptable to an operator’s requirements, whether they be in the United States or in other partner countries around the world, with the first variant expected to take flight by 2028. “Meet Vectis, a Group 5, survivable, lethal, and reusable, Collaborative Combat Aircraft that embodies not only our pedigree in [crewed] fighter aircraft, autonomy, and uncrewed systems, but [that] is also enabled by that Agile Drone Framework,” O.J. Sanchez, Lockheed Martin Vice President and General Manager of Skunk Works, told The War Zone and other media outlets this past week. “Vectis will provide U.S. and allied warfighters with range, endurance, and multi-mission flexibility, including air-to-air, air-to-surface, and ISR [Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance].”

In Manching, near Munich, the company is currently preparing the first two Valkyries it acquired from its US partner Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. with a sovereign European mission system, the Multiplatform Autonomous Reconfigurable and Secure (MARS) system, for their maiden flight. MARS also contains an AI-supported software brain called MindShare which not only replaces the missing pilot, but is also capable of coordinating entire mission groups by being distributed across many manned and uncrewed platforms. This mission documentary follows the first recovered flight of TA-2, the result of five years of effort and dedication marking a pivotal moment in sustainable hypersonic flight test for our country.
