Disturbing developments in Syria What began as isolated attacks by jihadists on Kurds, Alawites, Christians, and Druze has now become a terrifying norm. Human rights violations—now routine—include torture, executions, and public humiliation. Many perpetrators are tied to Syria’s new government under President Ahmad Assharaa, known as Al-Julani. Whether out of complicity or loss of control, the regime’s failure to stop these atrocities is undeniable. Chants like “Khaybar, Khaybar ya Yahud, Jaysh Muhammad sa-ya‘ud” (“Khaybar, Khaybar, O Jews, the army of Muhammad will return”) are once again echoing across Syria. This slogan, invoking the 7th-century Muslim conquest of the Jewish tribe of Khaybar, was popularized by Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, the founder of Hamas, during the First Intifada (1987–1993) to mobilize Islamist sentiment against Israel. In 2014, a modified version of the chant appeared on the website of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, founded by Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi in Doha, Qatar. The updated slogan declared: “Khaybar, Khaybar ya Yahud, Jaysh Muhammad bada’ ya‘ud” (“Khaybar, Khaybar, O Jews, the army of Muhammad has begun to return”). Now, in April 2025, videos from Syria show jihadist factions waving lS*S flags and chanting this very slogan, reviving violent antisemitic rhetoric once confined to extremist fringes—now normalized and weaponized under the watch of a government led by Ahmad Assharaa. #druze #syria #israel
